Nana Ohene Ntow, spokesperson for Alan Kyerematen has attributed his candidateοΏ½s low performance at the just ended Super Delegates congress of the New Patriotic Party to intimidation and victimization of his supporters.
οΏ½though it is too early to make any analysis about the election, I think there are one or two instances that nearly marred the beauty of the whole process.οΏ½
Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on Monday, Nana Ohene Ntow said reports from Eastern region during the election on Sunday alleged a situation where the regional chairman openly asked delegates to declare their votes to show that they indeed voted for Akufo-Addo while those who failed to do so were victimised.
"Major constituency declared their vote for Akufo Addo and definitely, it has a certain psychological effect. It is true that we have finished the voting butοΏ½in the Eastern Region, a constituency chairman called me to inform me that a Regional Chairman asked him to raise his ballot paper for everybody to see who he voted for; whether he really voted for Nana. It took the intervention of the police for matters to calm down. If Alan was still part of the five despite all of these, it is very important" he said.
He openly criticized party National Executives for looking unconcerned about the open declaration of certain party delegates ahead of such a crucial election, especially, from Members of Parliament and both constituency and regional chairmen throughout the country.
οΏ½If we want to maintain the peace always preached by Alan Cash to prevail, then all these little things must be avoided in the future,οΏ½ he stated.
But in a quick rebuttal, Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang, New Juaben Constituency Chairman and Spokesperson for the Eastern Regional Constituency Chairman Association denied the allegation that supporters of Alan in the Eastern Region were intimidated.
οΏ½I can say to the Glory of God that everything was peaceful. Nothing happenedοΏ½There was no instance of victimisation or intimidation to vote for Nana Addo. The constituency chairmen are all grown up that no one can intimidate them to show their ballot paper. Ohene Ntow should have even waited to hear this from his polling agent and not otherwise. I am saddened by this commentοΏ½it is very unfortunateοΏ½ he stated.
