Former Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Maxwell Kofi Jumah who is seeking re-election in the NPP upcoming Parliamentary Primaries has rubbished a publication by the Ghanaian Lens in its June 9, 2015 edition.
According to the Accra-based newspaper, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has been captured on tape expressing his belief that Nana Akufo-Addo would make a terrible president if elected into office.
“Everybody has his or her own talent or gift given him by God. I told the NPP that Akufo-Addo will be a terrible president. His administration will be booted out from office in less than three weeks,” Kofi Jumah was captured saying in a secretly-recorded tape.
But reacting to what he described as falsehood and a sliced audio, an angry Kofi Ghana, as he is affectionately called, told Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show host Kwame Nkrumah Tikese that “they (Ghanaian Lens) are mad; they should be taken to Pantang for mental check-up….on this tape, I am suspecting those I’m contesting with in the upcoming primaries as architects”.
He explained that there is a deliberate attempt to distort his campaign message to the delegates, but he is unperturbed and will continually focus on President John Dramani Mahama’s bad governance.
He insisted that Akufo-Addo has been a great leader of the opposition NPP since 2008 and contributed meaningfully to parliamentary debates when he was a Member of Parliament for Abuakwa, and urged his political opponents to rather peddle a better falsehood than resorting to cheap propaganda.
“I know Akufo-Addo to be good but when I got closer to him, I noticed he is much better than i realized and what Ghanaians need is this man,” Kofi Jumah said.
He questioned the logic of the newspaper's claims pointing out that any campaign against Akufo-Addo will mean a direct attack on the over 160,000 delegates who elected him as Flagbearer for the 2016 elections; and rhetorically asked; “Am I by any means saying those who voted for him don’t have sense?”
“I have been campaigning that it will be unnecessary for the delegates to vote for me and not work towards making Akufo-Addo President; I prefer him to be President than me being the MP for Asokwa. When I heard the tape, I realized my opponents are indeed very desperate, but I’m winning the Asokwa seat no matter how much they grease the palm of delegates,” he stated.
