It has been considered disparaging; the approach a Deputy Communications Director of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen used in warning the clergy and ex-presidents to stay off the ongoing debate on the voters’ register.
For this reason, he has incurred the wrath of Prophet Francis Kwadwo Owusu, the General Overseer of Tema-based Anointing Prayer and Evangelistic Ministry, who has threatened to rain biblical curses on the NDC communicator should he not come out to apologise to the elders he disrespected.
The vocal NDC Deputy Communications Director recently charged the clergy to stop commenting on the ongoing debate on the voters’ register because it is not their duty to determine for the Electoral Commission (EC) whether to compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2016 general elections or not.
He further asked the clergy to concentrate on their gospel and leave the politicians to discharge their duties, stressing that Christian Council of Ghana does not have the mandate to determine the way elections and its process should be conducted in Ghana.
His comments follows calls by the Christian Council of Ghana and former Presidents J.J. Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor for a new voters’ register ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Angered by the actions of the NDC communicator, Prophet Francis Kwadwo Owusu ranted: “you are a politician so what? I believe it is about time that the likes of Kwaku Boahen are cursed for insulting the clergy”.
In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, the General Overseer of Tema-based Anointing Prayer and Evangelistic Ministry wondered the powers that energized Kwaku Boahen “to tell J.J. Rawlings, who ruled Ghana for almost 20 years, and John Agyekum Kufuor, who also ruled for eight years, and the clergy to keep quiet?"
He gave Kwaku Boahen one week to right his wrong.
“If he fails to do so, I will invoke curses on him to serve as deterrent to other politicians who have developed the penchant of castigating and attacking the clergy anytime they comment on national issues”, the prophet said.
"It’s a sin to insult a Man of God. This will bring a curse on the country. So instead of allowing him to bring curses on the nation for innocent people to suffer, we will curse him so he dies," he stated.
"If the clergy are not important, will they be part of the National Peace Council?" he asked.
At a three-day revival under the theme ‘Divine Hope of Glory’ and impartation service, Prophet Owusu said Kwaku Boahen will do himself good if he apologises before the one-week ultimatum.
The revival was graced by renowned international evangelist and founder of Church of God Mission International, Bishop David Azenabor, Dallas USA; his wife, Rev Mrs Rose Azenabor; and Bishop Paul F. Lanier (III), founder of Hope Community Church, North Carolina, USA.
