The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed that President John Dramani Mahama’s ongoing nationwide tour, dubbed “#ChangingLives” to solicit for votes for the party’s primaries is also a platform to campaign ahead of election 2016.
Many including the Progressive People’s Party [PPP] have raised issues about the president’s tour in recent times – the PPP maintained that President Mahama is engaging in an abuse of incumbency with his changing lives tour.
They claimed the changing lives tour is purely an NDC campaign event ahead of the 2016 elections. The tour has witnessed the bussing of NDC supporters from various constituencies to regional capital to shore up support for the president ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.
The PPP, in particular, asserts it "has no qualms if the NDC, led by the president, will travel around the country to try in vain to demonstrate that they have done something better for Ghana, but this extravagant activity should not be done at the expense of the tax payer".
Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show Ghana Montie the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho admitted that – “He [Mahama] is the president of the country and leader of the NDC and he is going for reelection. He is working and at the same time campaigning. The law permits that. We don’t care what people will say.”
