The Effutu Municipal Assembly on Monday approved Mr Joseph Sylvester Silver as its Presiding Member for the Assembly but failed to approve Mr Francis Kofi Tagoe as the Municipal Chief Executive
Mr Silver received 23 out of the 26 total votes in an election conducted by the Effutu Municipal Electoral Commission.
Mr Alexander Aworoe, Winneba District Magistrate, swore in Mr Silver, who is also the Assembly Member for Dwemba Electoral Area.
During the confirmation process of the MCE, 16 members voted “Yes” for Mr Tagoe, six voted “No” while four ballots were rejected.
According to officials of the EC, since Mr Tagoe failed to obtain the required 18 votes, being two-thirds of the votes needed for his confirmation, another election will be organized within ten days.
The election was attended by Dr Acquinas Quansah, the Central Regional Minister and members of the public.
The confirmation of the MCE on December 15, 2015 was postponed to December 21 because of what the Authorities described as “legal and technicalities”.
The Effutu Assembly has been without substantive Chief Executive because of the sudden death the then MCE Nii Ephraim some time last year.
The Regional Minister has been acting as Chief Executive.
