The Upper East Regional branch of the United Cadres Front (UCF) has praised the Mahama Administration for performing creditably.
The Cadres in a statement issued the Regional Chairman, Mr Noble Asakeya Alagskomah, said “an independent critical observation and in-depth analysis by the UCF in the Upper East Region showed that the government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under the leadership of his Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, and Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur has performed creditably well”.
The cadres stated that the many pro-poor, pro-human centred policies and programmes and massive infrastructural development as well as the great efforts made in maintaining peace and stability had led to the increase in investor confidence.
Whilst calling on the President to remain focused on delivering on his mandate to the people of Ghana, the Cadres appealed to the National Executive Committee to work hard to resolve all the differences among some of the Parliamentary candidates at the just ended NDC primaries and urged them to work hard to ensure the party’s victory in the 2016 general election.
The cadres who congratulated all the winners of the primaries, asked the losers to rescind bitterness and join forces with the winners to win power next year.
“The battle ahead of us is more challenging than the November primaries. We must therefore, place the interest of the party far and above that of ours. Politics should not be a do or die affair.
“Our Intelligence source has it that some people are planning to go independent and others want to encourage ‘skirt and blouse’ voting. These are practices that gravely affect the fortunes of the party”, the statement warned.
The group commended President Mahama for the over whelming endorsement he got during the Presidential and Parliamentary primaries and also paid tribute to him for re-nominating the Vice President Amissah Arthur as his running mate for the 2016 election.
Citing the recent two by-elections in Talensi and Amenfi West constituencies that were won by the NDC, the group said the victory was a clear indication that the electorate are satisfied with the performance of the government.
On national security, the group appealed to the President to ensure that the national security is always on a high alert since some unscrupulous individuals and groups might want to take advantage of the tension that usually characterises election years to foment trouble.
They mentioned for example the unfortunate happenings in the opposition New Patriotic Party such as the deaths of some of its members as a grave concern to the peace and security of the country and must be prevented in the impending national election.
The cadres also reminded the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature and all public office holders to make probity and accountability the watch words in their stewardship.
Regarding development in the Region, the UCF decried the delay in the appointment of a new substantive Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga after the exit of Mr Edward Ayiriba Ayagle whose tenure of office ended early this year.
“We are entering an election year and the Municipality needs a substantive MCE to effectively handle both political and developmental issues for the party and the government.
“We are therefore appealing to the President to act promptly by finding a suitable candidate who is competent and experienced for the position of the MCE to speed up the development in the Municipality to ensure victory for the NDC.”
