Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to exercise effective supervision to help prevent malpractices by officials.

He said any laxity on their part could adversely affect their reputation.

Mr Aidoo, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi-Wiawso, offered the advice during the swearing into office of five newly elected MDCES in the region at a brief ceremony in Sekondi.

They are Madam Charlotte Otuwa Odum, 47, lecturer and the first female Chief Executive as the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly; Mr Joseph Dofoyena, 48, an educationist and a second time Chief Executive for Ahanta West District.

The rest are Mr Alexander Ofori, 48, Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for Bia West; Mr Eric Cobbina, 30, a Non Governmental Organisation official for Shama; and Mr William Somiah 48, an educationist and agriculturalist for Jomoro.

The Minister said as political leaders it was expedient for them to be alert by being listeners and avoid revealing confidential information to the public.

To avoid mistrust by the electorate, the Minister advised the MMDCEs to run open administration by involving the relevant stakeholders, like the traditional authorities, governmental institutions and seek the concerns of the physically challenged in the society.

He urged them to avoid using official properties like vehicles for their private work as they could be caught up with the law.

He urged the electorates to support the MMDCEs with meaningful suggestions and constructive criticisms that would promote development in the area.

On behalf of the MDCEs, Mr Dofoyena thanked the Minister for their nomination to the high office saying they would work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them.
