A lot of city dwellers, mainly head porters (Kayayei) were rendered homeless following the fire that razed down several wooden structures at Santasi Roundabout in the Ashanti region. The sad incident which occurred on January 30, 2016 ravaged about 210 structures.
However the President of the Ghana Association of head porters, Adiza Dagomba has visited her colleagues to share in their pain and donate several items to make life easier them after going through the tragedy.
The cause of the fire is unknown and no casualty has been recorded yet.
The fire fighters had to “call for reinforcement” to douse the raging fire which lasted for hours. Several items including home appliances such as TVs, VCDs and cooking utensils were destroyed.

Adiza Dagomba donated hundred bags of building cements, roofing sheets, thirty bales of used clothes, one thousand sandals for children of school going age, ten bags of rice and five gallons of cooking oils.
The President of the Ghana Association of head porters was warmly welcomed by her colleagues and used the occasion to promise them of better things to come if Nana Akufo Addo, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party is voted into office this year.
According to her, the National Democratic Congress led by President Mahama, have nothing good to offer to head porters. She disclosed that a government under Nana Akufo Addo would ensure head porters (Kayayei) have policy insurances that would protect them in their line of work. She urged them to massively vote for the NPP and turn down any invitation to campaign for the NDC.
