Kwabena Agyepong the suspended General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has withdrawn from appearing as a prosecution witness for his friend Mr Paul Afoko, who’s the suspended National Chairman of the party.
Mr Afoko’s lawyers told the court Thursday that the witness says he’s no longer available for the purpose.
The High Court has since struck out Mr Agyepong’s witness statement. Mr Afoko has therefore closed his case in court. The NPP is expected to call its witnesses on 24th June when the case resumes.
Mr Afoko is challenging his indefinite suspension from the party, arguing it was illegal.
The NPP’s National Executive Committee suspended him in October 2015 for “misconduct.”
According to him, the action and processes leading to his suspension by some elements of the party were unconstitutional and a breach of natural justice.
The decision was adopted by the party’s NC, which is the second highest decision making body of the party after congress but he maintains the party erred in the decision.
