The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has retained its parliamentary seat in the Abetifi constituency.
Bryan Acheampong won the bye-election polling 14,015 votes representing 89.97% of the total votes cast.
An independent parliamentary candidate (IPP) polled 469 votes, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) candidate followed closely with 439 votes and the parliamentary candidates of the United Front Party (UFP) got the least votes of 406.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) withdrew from the race even though its candidate; Emmanuel Tabi had picked up nomination forms from the Electoral Commission (EC)
According to the NDC they decided to step out of the race because they do not want to stir the memory of the constituents over the loss of the late NPP Member of Parliament (MP), Peter Wiafe Pepera.
