The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Suhum, who is also the National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for the area, Margaret Ansei aka Magoo, has denied reports in a section of the Ghanaian media that she abducted and tortured an activist of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying it is a ploy to distract her campaign.
There were reports in some newspapers last week that the MCE abducted and tortured Ametor Kwabla Akpagli in an engine room at her official residence.
Recounting his alleged ordeal to the media, the NPP activist said: “They (kidnappers) drove me straight to the MCE’s residence at Suhum and locked me up in an engine room for close to five hours after seizing my mobile phone.”
But responding to this allegation in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Acccra100.5FM on Monday September 5, Ms Ansei said: “I don’t even know the person you are mentioning. It cannot be true that that happened because the MCE’s residence is a security zone: there are police officers and other security personal around 24/7 and so it is impossible for me to kidnap anybody in my house.”
She added: “I am a Christian and I believe everything we do God sees us. Why should somebody lie like this because of political expediency? This person has embarrassed the police officers and the regional police commander. Nobody is above the laws, so if it is true that I did that, why haven’t the police come for me?
“This story is never true and the name you even mentioned, I have never heard about it. I don’t even know the person but I know that all these are political distractions my opponents have deployed just to distract me, but by God’s grace, I am so focused,” she added.
