"...are we saying that this budget is not for Muslims, are we saying that this budget is not for Atheist and so on, are we saying that this budget is primarily a Christian budget? Who elected this government to give us a Christian budget...?”
Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr made the above statement to express his dissatisfaction on what he describes as a 'Christian budget' presented in Parliament.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Attah during the presentation of the 2017 budget, made some references to quotations in the Bible, the Holy book of Christians.
He said: “Mr Speaker, I see our nation with this overwhelming election mandate as all having decided to withdraw in unison like Jesus to a remote place, Mr. Speaker, only to discover that we have five loaves of bread and two fishes to feed our 25 million plus fellow citizens. But herein lies the genius of the Ghanaian for we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do. As you can see, Mr. Speaker, with 5 loaves and 2 fishes, President Akufo-Addo’s budget has tackled the five structural pillars of revenue, expenditure, earmarked funds, labour and our debt.”
But contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji programme, the senior journalist pointed out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not elected to give Ghanaians a 'Christian budget'.
"...are we saying that this budget is not for Muslims, are we saying that this budget is not for Atheist and so on, are we saying that this budget is primarily a Christian budget? Who elected this government to give us a Christian budget? We have Ghanaians who are Jews, we know they believe in God but do not accept the New Testament. I’m saying that when we are doing circular things we should do circular things. He kept on referring to Jesus Christ in relation to the budget. Even if Vice President Bawumia is addressing the country through Parliament and he keeps on mentioning the name of Mohammed throughout his presentation, I’ll take him on...I am not happy at all with the religious bigotry which was so vulgarly displayed in the reading of the budget and I do hope that it will not extend to other state functions “
He added that even “when late President Mills said he had banned the pouring of libation and traditional prayers at state functions, he (Pratt) sharply disagreed with him (Mills), because no religion is inferior.
"Prof. Mills was a Christian alright but he couldn’t have chosen for us all, he couldn’t have created the impression that traditional religion is inferior; he had no right to do that under the constitution. Our leaders have a responsible to treat all religions equal....When late President Mills said he had banned the pouring of libation/traditional prayers at state functions I had a problem with him. Prof. Mills was a Christian alright but he couldn’t have chosen for us all, he couldn’t have created the impression that traditional religion is inferior, he had no right to do that under the constitution. Our leaders have a responsible to treat all religions equal,” Pratt stated.

THIS IS S3BIS3BI NKWASIA KEKA. WHEN NDC WAS RULING US INTO HARDSHIP. WHERE IS KWESI PRATT TO DISTINGUISH WHICH RELIGIOUS SECTION OF THE ECONOMY ARE SUFFERING AND WHICH IS SUFFERING. SO FAR AS AM CONCERN, NDC HAS NO FUTURE WITH THE PEOPLE OF GHANA.
Can Kwesi Pratt shut his mouth for once?, who made him the moral judge of Ghana. He seemed to know everything but yet contributes nothing.***barred word*** Kwesi Pratt you disgust me. The fact that someone holds public office does not negate his/her faith, besides holding public office does not mean you should accede to every belief even when you have your own faith. I blame those that offer him the platform to spew his limited info as fact on the populace. Kwesi Pratt can also contest to be elected to public public office and then he can also preach his own beliefs.
kWASI PRATT,YOU CANNOT FIGHT GOD,ALL THE ANTO GOD PEOPLE YOU WORSHIP FIDEL CASTRO,KARL MARZ,STALIN,CHE GUEVARA ,KWAME NKRUMAH ALL DIED MISERABLE AND NO BODY THINKS ABOUT THEM NOW,YOU WILL ALSO DIE THINK ABOUT ETERNITY AND SHUT YOUR BOOLA AND TIOLET MOUTH.
You have demonstrated over the years your are anti christian, but we do not care, the fact that there are different religions in Ghana does not mean a christian cannot talk about something in the Bible, similarly it does not mean a Muslim cannot mention anything in the Quran,We have been mentioneing "INSHA ALLAH everywhere why have you not criticised it.My friend stup up your boola mouth,***barred word***,you are no longer relevant, you cannot fight God and win,you will lose.
And who is Kwesi Pratt? I wonder why some media stations still invite this stomach journalist as he has lost his credibility. Is it not this same journalist who was given a vehicle by the previous administration led by John Mahama?
He was not preaching. He was just making a reference that they have few yet they will still do the work.
The humiliating loss of the NDC in the 7th Dec 2017 general elections have left Kwasi Pratt to behave like a wounded lion. This has made him ovely critical and picking on things that does not need to be picked on and now engaging in mediocrity. Please we know that you do not believe in God and does not believe God can help any person but if someone can believes in the workings of God, why get upset? There is freedom of religion so Mr Pratt mind your words because you have hurt the emotions of many people in Ghana that believe in God or Allah.
Mr advisor , keep to your self, Ken believe in GOD . AND WILL HELP HIM SUCCEED WAI OGUAM KWEASI PRATT
Kwasi praat, are you?Now a stomach commentator or social?Stop losing your credibility.
Kwesi Pratt is a dangerous ***barred word***. Where is the bigotry if the minister cites a Bible quotation to make his point? What kind of ***barred word*** is this? People like Kwesi the Pratt are a real danger to this country!
