Dr Sekou Nkrumah, son of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to allow Ghana’s first president’s role in the struggle for independence untouched.
President Akufo-Addo renewed the debate over whether Ghana should have founding fathers or a founding father while delivering his speech Monday to mark Ghana’s 60 independence anniversary.
According to him, the struggle for independence was started by members of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC).He listed Joseph Boakye Danquah, Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey, William Ofori-Atta, Ebenezer Ako-Adjei and Edward Akufo-Addo as the pioneers of the independence fight.
Mr Akufo-Addo added that it was when the UGCC leaders decided they needed a full-time general secretary that they brought in a younger nationalist in Mr Nkrumah.
“Soon thereafter, on 28th February, 1948, the notorious and senseless killings of three ex-servicemen, Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey... undoubtedly, quickened the pace of the independence movement,” he said.
This narrative of the president has not gone well with several Nkrumahists who believe he is re-writing history.
Dr Sekou Nkrumah, in a short letter addressed to the president, said: “Dear Nana Addo, I am with you in elevating 6th March to advance the interest of all Ghanaians as well as project all our heroes in a positive and dignified way so as to unite our dear country. However, I beg of you to leave 21st September for Nkrumah alone!
“I had my differences with the late Professor Mills but I stood with him in all humility for the honour he gave our first President Kwame Nkrumah in declaring his birthday a public holiday.”

Ask Sekou when he was born? He left the flagstaff house like he was 2 or 3 years so what does he know about his father? I remember the soldiers seeing them off at the KIA in 1966 it was in all the papers,he was so young he wouldn't remember anything and anything said by him is a lie. They came back to Ghana after his father's death in Conakry,Guinea in the early 70s and after Gen. Acheampong brought back his remains to be buried in Ghana and he settled the family in Ghana.Sekou should sh*t up for it was the P/NDC that sent them back to Egypt and the house given to them by the state confiscated and giving to DF Annan as his official residence. Some people have short memory and ungrateful, Sekou was able to join the ndc which drove them out from Ghana the 2nd time, but hated the NPP which brought his mother's remains from Egypt her motherland to be buried near her husband. I can see him Sekou as a troubled person, he shouldn't be taking serious. If he was an eye witness to those events then he should bring evidence1.Sekou is in big trouble frustration, depression and all those stuff.
Ghanaians are who they are today because of akkufo addo not kwame nkrumah.it is so sad that some of these ***barred word*** people like sekou who is nkrumahs son is challenging akuffo addo´s statement.I dont belong to any political party, the truth is that some people started the struggle long before small nkrumah came in
Nkrumah's party only won the elections when the British were handing over Gold Coast to the natives. It could have been any other Political Party involved in the struggle for independence. Sekuo your father was a great man but great men work with other men to achieve their greatness.
commott for der .u still refer to ur dead father as if hes still alive.massa dead men can not be hold wai
NANA ADDO, PLEASE DO NOT BRING WAR TO GHANA.NANA ADDO YOU BROUGHT WAR,MISTRUST IN YOUR PARTY AND THEN YOU ARE TRANSFERRING IT TO GHANA. GHANA WILL NOT BREAK BUT YOU WILL DIE FOR IT, I BET YOU
Nkrumah won independence for Ghana. simple. No JB what what and what what. they are all perepheral materials whose name can be mentioned but not hailed in Ghana's independence. JB Danquah was drinking tea with the British advising them to ignore Nkrumah but the magic of NKrumah held sway. Akufo Addo cannot change history. PERIOD
SIMPLY PUT, SEKOU NKRUMAH IS ONE OF THEM: THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, AND THEY DON'T KNOW THAT THEY DON'T KNOW. THOSE WHO SUFFER FROM JAUNDICE TO WHOM EVERYTHING APPEARS YELLOW. LORD HAVE MERCY.
SEKOU MUST THANK HIS STARS AND COUNT HIMSELF LUCKY. AAAAAAABBBBBA, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THROWN INTO JAIL BY NOW.
Those in support of the founder's day for Nkrumah what role are we giving to JB Danquah and the rest who started the struggling, those who invited Kwame Nkrumah to be their secretary and separated from them to form his own party. I believe even though Nkrumah did well in terms of socio-economic development he was a power driven and selfish person. Most of you are condeming what Nana said but none has pinpoint which part is not true.
This son of Nkrumah lacks knowledge paaa, who told u ur father started it, he was invited to join and he did a great job so that doesnt mean he was the only one involved so then tell us not to mention ur fathers name in any of Ghana's history, u have to accept the truth that we have founders and not founder alone and that truth will give u knowlege. Nana u said what was right cos JB Dankwa and others were all invoved
