President Nana Akufo Addo in his speech during Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary on 6 March, 2017, is quoted to have said that the UGCC “met to demand independence from the British and 70 years after that event, one still marvels at the clarity of thought and the passion that they displayed…some of the names of that momentous day have survived in our written history and folk memory.
Five of them are on our Ghanaian currency: Joseph Boakye Danquah; Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey; William Ofori-Atta; Ebenezer Ako-Adjei; and Edward Akufo-Addo. Kwame Nkrumah, the sixth of the Big Six on the currency, was to join them later.”
The President suggested that the struggle for independence was successful through the efforts of several others in 1957 and not only one person; Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
This generated controversy as many are of the view that the President attempted to re-write history.
Speaking to this issue, the managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr wonders why prominence is being given to this issue ‘which had been settled a long time ago’ when there are more important matters to deal with.
Kwesi Pratt, who was contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji, said: “this debate is absolutely needless and useless…because the history has been settled for a very long time. All over the world Nkrumah has become an iconic figure…that is why the only edifice that stands tall at the AU headquarters is Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah…”
According to him, "trying to denigrate a tall figure like Nkrumah is like kicking your bare feet against a rock. The only thing which will hurt in this process is the feet not the rock and I would like to advise those who are intent on doing this to watch out".
"We are told that this debate is to enable us learn about our history; I’m ashamed and embarrassed. This country has relived history as a stand-alone subject in our curriculum. If you want people to learn about history, is it through such useless and needless debate? Or should we or should we not reintroduce history as a stand-alone subject in our curriculum…"

Pratt! what is your beef, it is evidently clear that no one person could fight for the successful attainment of our independence. Who were the secretaries, drivers, advisers etc. and many more who supported Kwame Nkrumah to press fro the independence. It is of a fact that the process was started before he was invited to come and help. "No one can catch a lunatic single handed without some form of support, so spare our ears with your obsessions.
Why all these insults? In his submission did he insult anybody? We will never learn as a country. Instead of coming together and forging our nation forward we rather insult each other whenever there is disagreement. We have a long way to go.
KWESI PRATT, YOU SAID NANA ADDO CAN NEVER BE PRESIDENT, NOW HE IS PRISIDENT. NOW THAT HE IS PRESIDENT YOU WANT TO DESTROY HIM. SHAME ON YOU.
S---H---U---T UP OOOOO TON.
Mr.Kwasi Pratt the all-known professor what have you done for Ghana since you started talking? Kwame Sefa Kayi has bought incubators for some hospitals what have you done? All you know is skin pain..you started with Nana Addo but he keeps excelling because he has good thoughts. If you have any good advice channel it to your so called CPP. Fake man
Kwesi you have lost your respect in Ghana. goat like face
Let it be established with some finality of sort that the significance of Kwame Nkrumah in the annals of Ghana's history is etched in the fact that Kwame Nkrumah received the mandate to form the first ever government to run the beginning economy of Ghana; and he botched the assignment, driven by wrong economic and political policies. Kwame Nkrumah allowed his dutiful attention to stray to arrears that could ever be responsibility to tackle. It is reprehensible for Kwame Nkrumah to have drained Ghana's scare finance capital to service other coming economies, even if these were on the African continent. Did Kwame Nkrumah ever know the nature of the native ills that plagued the Gold Coast emancipated Ghana when he was supervising the run of the economy? No true history is borne out of biases and bigotry. Nkrumah created unpardonable blunders at home and on the international scene whatever anybody says. We shall surely visit this topic in our coming works.
Kwasi, this is the reason why CPP and Nkrumah s party can not come to power, becouase u give credict to only one person. even class one baby boy knows that ,one person can not fight to get Independence. I don t know it is out of ignorence or hypocrisy
He doesn't even have good teeth in his ***barred word*** mouth. he is such a kakai in his own family. he doesn't even have class mate and friends. such an obabu in our mist.
Pratt should rather be ashamed of his role as communicator for the NDC while carrying himself as a CPP member. He should be ashamed of his involvement in every little money and goodies sharing rendezvous by the NDC. His language on radio gold is different from that on Peace FM. I am ashamed of Pratt when I listen to him speak. Such hypocrite of a journalist.
