Denkyira West DCE's Suspension Must Serve A Big Lesson To Gov't Appointees - GGG Awards CEO

Founder and Chief Executive of RTP Awards, now appointed Chief Executive of Good Governance Awards Ghana (GGG Awards) Prince Mackay has commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for suspending the Denkyira West DCE, Daniel Appianing.

The DCE was suspended by the President after he made some disparaging remarks regarding the lynching of the late Mayor Maxwell Mahama.

He accused the late Military officer of being a leader of a Military detachment deployed to protect illegal miners in the locality.

The DCE was lambasted for offending the sensibilities of the deceased's family and being insensitive to unfortunate incident.

Several Ghanaians including seasoned journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako and other politicians called for an outright dismissal of DCE instead of suspension.

Addressing the issue, the GGG Awards CEO, Mr. Mackay lauded President Akufo-Addo for taking a swift action to sanction the DCE.

According to him, the suspension of the DCE will serve as deterrent to all government officials and put them on their toes.

It will ensure government appointees "watch their tongues when speaking on issues" and further make them accountable to the citizenry.

"Lessons here for government officials and public officials are that they must know that being an appointee or a public official does not make them experts in public speaking. For good governance, government must also ensure all her appointees are given lessons on public speaking.

"This must be a big lesson for all government appointees; Ministers of State, MMDCEs and MPs among others to be guided by good governance practices and put the interest of the nation first," he added.

He further called on the President not to reinstate the DCE.

“Government appointees must know they are put in their various offices for the people and not there to trample, disrespect and disregard the needs of the people. The least an appointee can do for the government is by working to ensure that the government lives up to expectations of the people who gave them the mandate to lead them. They must respect them. Under no circumstances should any appointee speak like the way Daniel Appianing spoke.”

GGG Awards, the first ever in Ghana, is aimed at celebrating and rewarding contributions of hardworking Ministers of State, Members of Parliament (MPs), the Judiciary, MMDCEs and MDs of Government Institutions among others.
