A senior lecturer in political science at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo has taken a swipe at Ghanaian politicians describing them as greedy and liars.
In an epistle on his Facebook page, inspired by comments by Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo that the public sector is chocked and cannot employ anymore, Professor Gyampo said “Politicians in Ghana would lie and deceive to get political power and when power is granted by the people, they would use this same power to inflict hardships on the people.”
He described them [politicians] as “greedy, they are self-seeking, self-serving, self-perpetuating and self-aggrandizing cabals.”
Below is the full article:
“You get your own children enrolled in the Public Service immediately after winning an election and tell all other unemployed Ghanaians that the Public Service is bloated and cannot absorb them. Indeed if have your way, you would retrench some public servants.
“Really? What was your response to the past government's public sector recruitment freeze when you were in opposition?
“I won't condemn you because I knew you were either lying to get power or u never knew what you were talking about when you were in opposition.
“My happiness is that the very gullible people who failed to reason with me when I argued that politicians in Africa and for that matter, Ghana, do not mean well for the ordinary citizenry, are now beginning to know about the politics of deceit. Indeed, your own supporters have taken serious issues with your recent comment on employment in the Public Sector.
“You may be right in telling Ghanaians about the over-bloated nature of our Public Sector and the fact that it may not be able to absorb more people.
“But didn't you know this as an astute professional when you were in opposition? Why did you criticize the same thing you are now doing?
“Politicians in Ghana would lie and deceive to get political power and when power is granted by the people, they would use this same power to inflict hardships on the people.
“What did you tell the nurses when you were in opposition? What is happening to them now?
“Admittedly, the austerity policies introduced to reduce their intake and not to bond them after school, may be the way to go. But what was your attitude about the condition of Ghanaians trainee nurses when you were in opposition?
“Politicians in Ghana do not mean well. They are greedy. They are self-seeking, self-serving, self-perpetuating and self-aggrandizing cabals.
“They would continue to take us for a ride because they know we are overly partisan. They know that we always wear partisan lenses that blindfolds us in looking at issues objectively. They know that we will still support them even if they lie to us. They know that we will still support them even if they steal from us. They know that we will still support them even if they come for our wives. They know that we will still support them even if they callously inflict hardships on us.
“Fellow Ghanaians and my friends, blind support to political parties only promote the interests of political elites, their children and cronies. it is in our own interest to rise above the kind of excessive partisanship that breeds political madness, undermines our own sovereignty as the real owners of power and makes us gullible and manipulable tools in the hands of selfish politicians.
“Until we all rise to critique and keep governments on their toes at all times, politicians would continue to make irrational promises just to get our votes and once they get our votes, they would mis-govern to undermine our quest for national development and improvement in our physical quality of life.
“I know that those who are still "politically mad" would tag me as NDC just because of this post. But it's fine because I can understand their sad condition that would not allow them to appreciate the fact that I also critiqued the NDC when it was in power.
“Mine is to scrutinize those in power!”

So be it if you're NDC! God knows you're telling the gospel truth. Even the guy at Fahiakobo knows full well NPP lied and keep lying. But it is about time we rise up Ghanaians. Otherwise these crooks will always trample on our freedom.
Speaks as neutral but has NDC undertone. SHAME!
Where were you when NDC was messing up with the economy. Is it now that you have woken from your 8 years of sleep.Look at the massive corruption under NDC.Look at the debt they left at NHIS and many more. For the past one four years there was no employment at the public sector.Nurses were home, teachers were also home and for more than Six years agric extension officers were also home. You were in Libya so you did not see what NDC party dealt wickedly with Ghanaians. Why are you now attacking 7months old government hypocrisy.
You are taking on other people for perceived lies, but are afraid to be taken on and already calling your imagined critics as "sad", common buddy, if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen! Say your piece and don't be afraid to take whatever comes back to you, be bold, don't start out calling people names and beg that you not get it back. As long as we have lived and will live, politicians will flounder, it is for us nonentities to weigh the different politicians and then pick the one who on balance will "deliver". Otherwise join them and hope you deliver. Sadly, I don't recall you being so vociferous in times past. That does not mean you shouldn't start now, but don't be so jittery and fearful of criticism.
I understand your passion and desire but you should have shown the same passion and desire for jobs when NDC came into power in 2009 and started destroying everything NPP had done in the 8 years past. Please check the DATA. Ghana's economy started going downhill immediately NDC came into power in 2009 and most of us even thought the economy was on AUTOPILOT then. Yes jobs must be provided for the youth but any economist will tell you that it takes months for governments initiatives at creating employment to become reality so give Nana Addo and NPP all the time required for their policies to reflect in the everyday lives of Ghanaians. Take a look at the economy again next time this year and see the difference. There is nothing partisan about lending support to the truth. It is this sort of LIES and PROPAGANDA that brought NDC to power in 2009 and unfortunately the very people complaining do not seem to have learnt their lesson.
You never said this when public sector debt was skyrocketing. You never said this when DUMSOR (power cuts) was collapsing businesses in Ghana. You never spoke when corruption under NDC was the order of the day. How come you criticise a government that is now trying to fix the problem or mess created by NDC. NPP has only been in power for just over 7 months and yet you get the temerity to criticise for admitting that there was a problem. For 8 years the economy was stagnant while public sector debt was rising with absolutely nothing to show for it. This is the source of the problem and that was why many of us were campaigning against it. The public sector is a consumer and not a producer therefore when you pile on debt while the economy is not growing via increased activity then it will get to a point where everything tanks completely. NPP must be allowed to address this imbalance. The only person that lied to win power in Ghana was JM and he has rightly been booted out of it. To the best of my knowledge, no country in the history of this world has been able to grow their public debt stock by almost 900% in 8 years. It is UNPRECEDENTED and rightly deserves a place in GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS. I can assure you that come December 2020, Ghana's economy will be in a far better shape than it was in December 2016. If in doubt mark my words.
Godfred, pls forget this NDC and NPP THING. If we go on like this our leaders will always disappoint us. How can they promise us jobs and now them telling us different issue. I hope u remember the results of the 2016 that shows that the employment campaign by NANA went well in our head so if his on General Minister or Minister for all or whatever his position is comes out to say a thing like this. Then we need someone like Mr. Gyampo to spit fire on them on our behalf. People are traveling to go n seek for greener pastures and you stopping them and u dont even have any job for us to do. They day the youth will strike there u will see if its NDC OR NPP matter. Politicians ‘Greedy, Self-Seeking, Self-Aggrandizing’ indeed they are.
Who doesn't know you yo be an NDC folk. All of you benefited from the corrupt practices of the NDC.Master you have already said it because you are a staunch NDC supporter and you are making this system out of greed, jealousy and pain for your corrupt pay Masters
