Former Nantong MP, Murtala Muhammed has expressed pessimism about the chances of the Free Senior High School being implemented by the Akufo-Addo administration to succeed.
According to him the government's inability to be consistent with figures and cost involved in the implementation of the policy and sources of funding raises lots of doubts over the policy.
He mentioned contradictions with figures presented by the Finance Ministry and approved by Parliament and that of the Ghana Education Service and Education Ministry as very worrisome
The outspoken member of opposition NDC cautioned that the discrepancies may result in the failure of the programme.
"Running a country is not like running a private business... Now if you have a budget that you have presented and in that budget, you indicated that you were going to spend GHC400 million, in the mid-year budget, it was absolutely mute, you never told us. You cannot expend any money without what is approved by parliament" he stressed
He also pointed out that, "we are talking about an academic year, granted that it's even a term, by the very statistics given by the Ministry that they are spending about GHC1000 per student and we have been told by your government that about 423000 students are going to benefit, multiply that by 1000 and that will give you more than GHC500million. What we have in the budget is not that way and we are talking about a term"
The Free SHS policy of the Akufo-Addo government is expected to commence from the start of the 2017/2018 academic year.
Meanwhile, Former Deputy Education Minister in charge of Tertiary, Okudzeto Ablakwa has said the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration commenced the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme.
He, therefore, stressed that the notion being created by communicators and representatives of the Akufo-Addo-led administration that the programme is an initiative of the government is false and inaccurate

Look at this one too. Nothing is possible for them.
Doubting Thomas's, confused people in confused party... they want to claim credit for job no done. Nation wreckers, uncultured people, corrupt people living in the land of evil...
It is very DIFFICULT to understand this man Murtala Mohammed. I know he has a very good 'academic record' which he boasts of. Was he able to finance his own education? I a government at a time planned it and was implemented, nothe CAPABLE government has brought FREE SHS and it is going to be implemented. Do you find it DIFFICULT that other people are also going to benefit and equal or even surpass your so called academic record? GO AND HIDE IN YOUR HUT AND WATCH EVENTS FROM THERE SHS IS LIVE NOW.
Murtala himself is a failure just as NDC is a failed party full of people without thinking abilities so the comment is not shocking
Problem with NDC. The party lacks capacity to dream big projects for Ghana. They always do politics with issues, scratch surfaces and do excessive propaganda to promote what they seem to have achieved. I would want a Party to dream very big, like build railways lines across the country, build say a flagship airport in Northern Ghana to promote business etc. The only area the NDC dreams big, and very big is corruption and they are very good in that area. FreeSHS is very good, its implementation will be challenging, but I like this freeSHS dream, because the end is for the betterment of mother Ghana. There is no need for Propaganda on projects, Ghanaians can see for themselves what has been done.
You benefited from Northern Scholarship to become an MP. Others from the southern are coming to enjoy too u and ur people are doing everything possible to block it. Shame on u and ur likes.
Another fuuuulish guy.Health insurance was not feasible and it came to passed. What at all is wrong with this NDC folks.Don't you at least have some shame.I always say that these are bunches of witches and wizards in our body politics who always fight good things with their utterances.Hmmmmm I wonder where the kind of blood that flows in them. Satanic blood.
Well said my dear.. these ndc folks talk as if they have coconut heads..
Another arrogant fufuool..he talks baa heart.
Papa yi abon papa. So he wants to tell us that he doesn't know that the GHc1000 is for boarders and that the amount for day students is far lower because they do not pay for feeding as well as boarding fees. Also does the finance minister have to read everything in the main budget during the mid-year budget review? So the fact that the finance minister did not mention the figure once more in the mid year budget review means that there are conflicting figure. Asem ben koraa nie
