Ranking Member on the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Hon. Inusah Abdulai Bistav Fuseini, says the proposed August 4, founders’ celebration is “unnecessary”.
“The President is finding ways to celebrate is uncle,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’.
He described it as “over ambitious” moves by President Nana Akufo-Addo, who has proposed legislation to Parliament to designate 4th August as Founders' Day, and 21st September as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.
If passed by Parliament, both days will be observed as public holidays, a statement signed by the Director of Communications at the presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin said.
The statement said, in the meantime, the President has issued an Executive Instrument to commemorate this year’s celebration of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day as a public holiday.
However, this has not gone down well with a section of the Minority, as well as Nkrumahists across the country.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central holds the view that some denominations of Ghana’s currency have the images of the Big Six, considered to be part of the Founders', hence the designation of a day for their celebration is meaningless.

Frankly mine take on this issue is simple ; we do not need another founders day holiday and I agree with Alhaji Fuseni because there are too many holidays in the calendar working year of Ghana besides this is deliberate attempt by Nana Addo to try and elevate and honour his uncle JB Danquah and his father Edward Akuffo -Addo afterall there were other great men in the so called Big six that we do not even hear about including Paa Grant a merchant at the time who provided the financial muscle for the UGCC ;after all what did these two relatives of Nana Addo contribute to Ghana independence apart from JB Danquah being a spy for the US intelligence against Kwame Nkrumah to me Kwame Nkrumah had his faults ; Dr JB Danquah had his faults and even during the time of Nana Addos father there all kinds of rumours against Nana Addos father; the trouble is that the NDC will also claim a holiday for JJ Rawlings as their founder and 4th June and 31st December will also be claimed as a holiday by the NDC; YOU DO ME I DO YOU !!!!!!!
I don't blame him because he was one of the cabinet minister of the failed Mahama government.
What did Inusahs uncle do to propel Ghana to independence?Tell us so that we celebrate him.Jealousy will kil some people before they die.Shallow thinking indeed.
Cheap and childish talk. Does JB Danquah deserves recognition in the formation of Ghana or not? People like you are the reason why black man never progress in life.
You see oh. When Atta Mills made one for Nkrumah, you did not complain. Now doing one for all the founders is a crime.
