Private Legal Practitioner and Member of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, has said Ghana will not be peaceful if the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei, is removed from office.
According to him, the current government is using the system to harass Mrs Osei, a situation he said does not augur well for the stability of the country.
Mrs Osei is expected to answer for six allegations out of the 27 accusations levelled against her by her two deputies Amadu Sulley (in charge of Operations), and Georgina Amankwa (in charge of Corporate Services).
This was after she appeared before the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court on Monday, December 11, after the President forwarded a petition by Forson Ampofoh and Godsway Dzado, both drivers at the EC office for her impeachment in relation to alleged corruption and mismanagement.
The two deputies are to also answer for their alleged roles in the disappearance of some GHS480,000 from the EC’s Endowment Fund, among other allegations.
Mrs Osei, who was present at the hearing with her lawyer explained that she has not been officially served with the petition. She has therefore written to the presidency to furnish her with a copy of the petition.
She has also written to the Judicial Service to provide her with reasons why she has been asked to appear before the committee even though she has not officially received a copy of the petition to be privy to the accusations levelled against her.
Speaking on this matter in an interview with Accra FM on Tuesday December 12, Mr Amaliba said: “These are the worrying signals. How can you drag somebody to your committee without giving the person a copy of the document and everybody is keeping quiet?”
“…What has the woman done? She has declared election results in your favour and so what again do they want from her that they are using the process to harass her?
“Where are the CDDs? Where are the Occupy Ghanas? If it were to be the NDC government all these people would be speaking by now. Where is Emile Short? Where is Professor Martey? This country will burn and we will see where all of us will be and so they should continue doing it.”

IS THIS AMALIBA GUY NORMAL? FULLLISSSH TALK.
A lawyer like yourself is talking like that, and when the young ones take a cue from what you said and misbehave, you will turn around and blame invicible forces right? What kind of society are we living in?
Irresponsible lawyer, grow up. The law will catch up with her and she will be removed. No one will steal for you at EC again. Try any thing funny and you will smell pepper.
Then hurry up and go and weed around the Nsawam Prison and paint it too because you will be going there soon
Charlotte is the last hope for the NDC so see how they are up in arms, defending her as they did last year? If she is removed, let Amaliba, Anyidoho and their corrupt NDC try anything si*lly and they will be beaten very well, by the same police they used to beat innocent demonstrators in Accra. The NDC is worried because their rigging machine failed and is almost getting extinct. OPPOSITION SHALL BE THEIR PORTION FOR A LONG TIME.
Amaliba must be arrested for causing fear and panic, he called himself a lawyer hmmmmmm only in NDC we will have such people.
What happened to Laureta Lamptey? Some petitioners raised charges of corruption and impropriety against her as Chraj Commissioner. President Mahama forwarded the petition to the CJ. The CJ established a prima facie case against her. A panel was set up by the CJ to investigate the case against Ms. Lamptey. She was asked to step aside while the investigations were on going. When her guilt was established the panel sent their report to the CJ who also sent her ruling, report or judgement to President Mahama. President Mahama took a decision based on the report from the CJ and impeached or dismissed Ms Lamptey, the Commissioner of CHRAJ. That was the end of the matter. No one raised any objection against the action taken by President Mahama. Why are people raising all kinds of questions against Mrs Chalotte Osei as if she is above the law? Why are some politicians rushing to the defense of the EC Chair as if she is being pushed out of office without justification? It must be made clear that the President has not taken any decision on the lady. His decision will be purely based on the findings of the team empaneled by the CJ. In any case Mrs. Osei is not the only commissioner going through this exercise. Her two deputies are also going through the process based on charges leveled against each other by themselves. The president or his administration has not leveled any charges against any of them. Let ll of us be patient and wait for the results of the investigations of the panel put together by the CJ. There should be no political noise from any quarters please.
Amaliba that fire will start from your house so get prepared.
This arrogant lawyer must be arrested and disciplined. Ghana did not burn when they were in power and will not burn now. Has any law being flouted? Or they expected the president to discard the petition when it was received so that they could accuse him of not following constitutional order. Let Madam Charlotte go to answer the petition. She claims not have received the petition yet she produced a 45 page response! Let us allow the laws to be followed and we stop talking about burning down the country. After all if she is removed because of malfeasance who cares.
