Audio Attachment:Carlos and Ablakwa in a heated argument |
Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah, on Tuesday locked horns with the Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto in Parliament over alleged money charged expatriates who sat beside the President during the recent Ghana Expatriates Business Awards.
The near fisticuff occurred after the two met in a media interview on the matter, Tuesday, outside Parliament.
Mr Ablakwa described the alleged 'extortion' as "dubious, immoral and unethical". According to him, the Ministry of Trade and Industry is "using the Office of the President to extort money from expatriates”.
Carlos Ahenkorah who was fuming with rage, described Okudzeto Ablakwa as a 'thief' and a 'liar'; adding he has no moral right to accuse anyone of corruption.
"Where is the fact; what you are saying is only coming from your mind…Let him know that he is a thief; you have stolen through your life and you have even lied throughout your education..." he slammed.
Mr Ablakwa before walking out of the interview also remarked: “you can tell from the Minister’s attitude that he is clearly uncomfortable with this matter and he stands exposed… I think as a public officer he has to behave himself”.
Background
The Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak was first to raise the allegation in Parliament last Friday, describing as illegal charges imposed on businesses by the trade ministry.
According to Alhaji Mubarak, the Trade Ministry allegedly collected US$ 100,000 from participants at the awards held on December 8, 2017 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra.
The Minority Chief whip, referring to a letter dated October 23, 2017 and signed by the deputy Minister for Trade and Industry Carlos Ahenkorah asked business executives who would want to sit closer to the president to pay in excess of US$ 100,000.
But in a rebuttal, the trade ministry accused the MP of peddling falsehood and playing politics. (click to read)

You have made my day! We have some gullible Ghanaians who are just supporting politicians in their corrupt deals even though they are struggling to feed themselves. God should open our eyes to know the real characters of these African politicians who are milking their countries
What happened if it indeed occur should not be said about Nana Addo and his government who is an advocate against corruption. What happened in the case of Khumkhum Bagya Stars is a private issue and it's irrelevant to Ghanaians. Let's team up and fight against all forms of corruption in our society.
Corruption, corruption, corruption NDC Opposition Party you people can't relinquish your "Corrupt Tag oootom and it will be your birth name Forever and Ever. If I may asked, when Ablekwa was the Information Minister did not he collaborated with Businesses or big Companies to Published the "Presidential Dailies" For John Mills and and Ex. Pres. John Mahama?? didn't the NDC used the Presidency to solicit monies to published the "Presidential Daily" was the NDC including Ablakwa and Dr. Omane also involved in corruption ??? NDC supporters and MPs should give us a big brake wai.
I have observed over time that NPP ministers, mps, communicators, party officials as well as members are very intolerant when it comes to addressing issues of allegations leveled against this government. They are dodgy in these matters. They rather resort to personal attacks which do not address the substantive matters at hand. It's all over the place; on tv, radio and social media. I remember how Bawumia attacked Mahama on the digital address system when everyone is having problems with it; how Napo attacked Prof. Naana Opoku Agyeman and several others on different platforms. This is what makes their party members happy so they also happy to this path of idiooocy. Can NPP for once learn to discuss allegations without attacking peoples personalities? We are watching! We are discerning!
Corruption, Corruption, Corruption. Nana Addo thinks he is smart enough to use his corrupt officials such as Alan Cash and Carlos to steal through the back door. Why should you collect money in the name of sitting with the pesident to raise funds. Is that how low this Batapaaa President can go. L.i.e.r.s and T.H.I.E.V.E.S
I have observed that many NPP officials don’t know how to remain calm in the face of provocation. NPP people should very careful with NDC communicators like Mr. Ablakwah and Mr. Felix Ofosu Kwakye. These people are skilful in provoking their political opponents to get crazy in order to get them into trouble. NPP officials should always remember to act maturely.
This guy is a depute minister, ooh Ghana, God help us
I WONDER WHY PEOPLE GO TO THE DEFENCE OF OFFICE HOLDERS WITHIN THEIR PARTY WHEN ISSUES OF CORRUPTION ARE BEING LEVELED AGAINST THESE OFFICE HOLDERS. ASK YOURSELF THAT WHAT DO I BENEFIT BY GOING ALL OUT TO DEFEND SUCH A PERSON WHEN S/HE IS ENRICHING HIS FAMILY AND YOU ARE THERE STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET AND STRUGGLING WITH YOUR FAMILY TO GET EVEN A SINGLE WELL BALANCED DIET FOR THE DAY AND NOT TWO BALANCED DIETS IN A DAY NOT TO TALK OF THE THIRD ONE. YOU JUST SUPPORT THE PARTY BLINDLY. PEOPLE MUST GET ENLIGHTEND AND STOP THOSE MEANINGLESS AND BLIND SUPPORT FOR CORRUPT OFFICE HOLDERS. IT WILL NOT TAKE YOU ANYWHERE, NEITHER WILL IT TAKE GHANA ANYWHERE FURTHER.
An expatrait friend showed me the letter from the ministry of trade and he was totaly appalled why must this happen in our country. NPP your image is sinking each day.
Thank you Ablakwa for exposing this serial con man called Ahenkora. He thinks he is smart and he has been caught pants down. Some NPP members are just becoming too arrogant. This minister's days are numbered.
