President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede, is demanding an immediate apology from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its National Chairman, Freddie Blay, for ” insulting and disrespecting” him.
Togbe Afede’s request comes on the back of a story published by a newsportal; Mynewsgh, claiming that Freddie Blay had described him [ Togbe Afede] as an ignorant person who talks like a palm-wine tapper, following his comments on the acquisition of 275 mini buses for 275 constituencies by the NPP’s newly elected Chairman.
The story, titled ‘Stop the ignorance and “palm-wine business talk” – Blay replies Togbe Afede, did not specifically indicate where Freddie Blay made the supposed comments, except to say that Mr. Blay questioned if Togbe Afede was a palmwine tapper when he made huge money as a Chief and a businessman?
A statement signed by Secretary of the Asogli State Council, Stephen Tetteh, said the Council takes “strong exceptions to the statements, names and comments in this reply as they are insulting and disrespectful.”
They threatened to take the next line of action if the party and Mr. Blay fails to apologize for the offensive comments.
These alleged comments from Mr. Blay came to the fore after Togbe Afede waded into the controversy surrounding the acquisition of the 275 buses.
Togbe Afede, a businessman who is also the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, said the move by Freddie Blay deepens the corruption perception. He thus urged chiefs to help address the worsening perception and incidence of corruption in the country.
“Let me say that the frequency of corruption at elections is worrying; because that sequence itself suggests the lack of trust and lack of transparency…. And I think that we all have to work hard to minimize the frequency of perceptions of corruption and corruption. Nananom [Chiefs] should lead the fight and should talk for transparency.
Sometime ago, it was one party building a multi-million dollar headquarters, we all sat down and did not complain. And recently, an aspiring chairman of a party buying several 275 vehicles. These are matters that should attract Nananom’s attention. And I’m very happy that at least the latest one has attracted the attention of the special prosecutor. Unfortunately, the canker has spread so deeply” the Cheif said about the 275 buses controversy.
The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has described as “foolish” the questions about the timing of his purchase of 275 buses for New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituencies across the country.
Speaking in a Joy News interview, Freddie Blay said arrangements for the purchase of the minibuses were several months ahead of the NPP’s delegates conference and was before he sought reelection.
“Why now? If yesterday I didn’t do business and today I do business, [they’ll] ask why now. It is a very foolish question for people to ask. If some people have done it yesterday and today I am in the position to do it. That arrangement was not started two weeks to election, not one month to election… It’s about 11 months [ago]. I had not even decided to contest,” he said.

Why didn't this NDC chief comment when the whole was asking where the NDC got millions of dollars to build their new headquarters?
attacks on togbe is highly unfair and unaccepatble looking at his position and the comment made.i dont think his comment were that hamrful to warrant such attacks.i think we need to pierce our political veil such cases.and respectfully his comment was fair to all the political aprties .
Togbe ,they will apologize. Please cool! you did no wrong you said the truth and you gave good advise but Ghana's journalists are the second after ndc in wrecking this nation. They are not professionals like yesteryear journalists, these crop in Ghana are running like somebody is chasing them, they all want to be heard so causing sensation where there is none. They like to twist ,turn and spin and that makes them happy, they like that when their counterparts abroad are doing good and professional journalism where everyone has hope in them, Ghanaian journalist are running for food so turn good news into bad sensation.
some of these chiefs think they are gods? Rubb**ish!
This afede chap should f****king go jump in a bottomless lake. A so called astute business man with his hands in so many pies should have known that making lose statements unbecoming of an overlord would equally attract the deserved response he's had. In the name of the almighty God, NPP or Freddy Wosemamu Blay should never ever issue any apology to this caricature of a t--wat. After a successful congress, the last they need is this w0rthl£ss distraction. You impugn that Blay is corrupt and ask for the special KWASI PETER to look into his affairs. I doubt Afede has seen any contractual documentation from Blay. NPP will never woo over the volatrians and so they should forget appeasing the misdirected Afede. Ohene engyimi saa.
Atika Atika! Toggle should apologize for wrongfully labeling Freddie Blay and NPP as Corrupt or inferring same, whichever! Otherwise Kulee! tpgbe can go burn the sea!!!!!
power can trick...
I THINK IT IS A PROPER HUMAN BEHAVIOUR TO APOLOGIZE TO WHOEVER GETS OFFENDED BY ONEs SPEECH OR ACTION. WHAT WILL BLAY LOSE IF HE APOLOGIZES IF TRULY THE CHIEF IS OFFENDED. THE CHIEF's SPOKESMAN MUST CUT OUT THE THREAT...IT IS NOT USEFUL.
I guess the next line of action will be to go to h33l. You better get started then.
'Yes, Ayigbefo no aka wonho bio'. After a successful NPP national executives elections, look and listen to the distractions coming from ..........? SHAME unto alllllll anti-NPP people. Your EVIL intention against NPP will NOT WASH! Ghanaians are now WIDE AWAKE!
