General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia believes some individuals within the opposition party are doing all they can to “paint me black” in the eyes of the party’s founder, John Jerry Rawlings.
According to him, his relationship with the former president is still “solid” despite claims that he has disrespected him (Rawlings) on several occasions.
The NDC Chief Scribe is on record to have once made a subtle reference to the Ex-Prez as a "barking dog".
Interestingly, even before the 2016 General Elections, Mr. Rawlings was all for a total overhaul of the party’s national executives.
Ahead of the NDC National Delegates’ Conference in December 2015, the outspoken former president who signed the first manifesto of the NDC with his blood, had wished the NDC purged itself of its leadership (then led by Chairman Dr Kwabena Adjei and General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia) whom he (Rawlings) described as dead wood to stand any chance of victory in the 2016 elections.
Irrespective of all these instances, Mr Asiedu Nketiah dismissed assertions there was no love lost between him and Mr Rawlings, emphasising that his relations with Mr Rawlings remain cordial and there was no bad blood between them.
“People just want to destroy our relationship but it will never work. I have no issues with our party’s founder [John Rawlings],” he said in an exclusive interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
Affectionately called ‘General Mosquito’, Asiedu Nketia also debunked claims that he was once an interpreter to Mr Rawlings during his military regime.
He explained that, a picture circulating of Rawlings and one ‘Old secretary’ beside him during a public event was not him as claimed.
“That man is not me. I learned that man was an Information Officer; I don’t know whether he is dead or alive now. I had no relationship with the former president then so I don’t know why people are saying it’s me. They just want to create the impression that Rawlings brought me into politics,” he told sit-in host, Mc-Jerry Osei Agyeman.
