Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has condemned the violent action exhibited by students of Katanga Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on campus on Monday, October 22, 2018 against the school authorities.
The students were protesting against a decision by the Vice Chancellor Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso and the authorities to turn the all-male Katanga Hall into a mixed hall with females.
They thronged the streets on campus in their numbers, clad in red and amidst the protest vandalized several properties including the office and car of the Vice Chancellor.
Kweku Baako, speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, expressed disgust over the destruction that characterized the protest stating emphatically "they were needless and they were mindless".
According to him, he doesn't endorse violent actions and therefore cannot throw his weight behind the students for vandalizing properties.
Though admitting that he supports the students in principle that their concerns need to be addressed, he would rather have had them use appropriate channels to register their displeasure with the decisions by the University authorities against them.
"...they ought to be condemned outright… I can’t support the kind of violence they perpetrated. It doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve done it before and I was dismissed showing that that thing was wrong. We have to be very honest with this thing and very direct (in our condemnation)," he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.

They're bringing you ladies so you can have proper entertainment you say you don't like. Massa what do you like?
This is the problem, if you keep telling people about their rights and you don't tell them their responsibilities they will always think about those rights alone because they don't feel responsible for any thing. If they knew their responsibility they wouldn't vandalize school property. They wouldn't even go against the schools authority.
I thought management of the school was responsible for the schools management! So how can anyone go against the decision of the school managers? This is strange. The students are there because there are so many things they do not know! They are there to learn and not to entertain themselves every weekend. The vice Chancellor should be allowed to instill discipline! Spare the rod and spoil the child. We can't afford to turn our kids into Felix, Ablakwa or awuku.
NO RESPONSIBLE PERSON WILL DEFEND THE EVIL DEEDS OF THE KNUST STUDENTS. THE SRC WERE INSINCERE AND IRRESPONSIBLE. THEY INFORMED THE THE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT OF THE BOYCOTT OF CLASSES AND THE INTENDED DEMONSTRATION. THE MANAGEMENT RESPECTED THEIR RIGHT TO DEMONSTRATE. THE SRC SHOULD HAVE MADE SURE THAT THEY COULD CONTAIN THE DEMONSTRATION. IF THEY HAVE FAILED TO CONTROL THE DEMONSTRATION IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO NAME ALL THOSE WHO CAUSED THE DESTRUCTION. EITHER THAN THAT THEY SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE AND PAID FOR ALL THE DESTRUCTIONS. IS THAT THE LEADERSHIP THAT THEY HOPE TO PROVIDE TO THE NATION IN THE FUTURE? SHAME.

I agree with Kweku Ananse on this one but that still doesnt change the fact that he is a pro to a cr1m1nal boy. the students were ***barred word*** if you ask for my opinion.
"The students were protesting against a decision by the Vice Chancellor Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso and the authorities to turn the all-male Katanga Hall into a mixed hall with females". Who make the rules? the students or the authorities of the university?
Masa, the demostration had nothing to do with the mixed halls, and the students did all they could for their voices to be head through the right Chanel but were ignored, what triggered the voilence was when the authorities brutalized them, what else could they do, Masa when the students petitioned the appropriate changes and we're ignored where where you,
Mr Oldie get your facts right. It was KNUST students who demonstrated against students being brutalized not Katanga Hall demonstrating against halls being converted! Poor journalism. Thought the older you grow the more matured you become but in your case you've sold your maturity and integrity for ... Sleep well
Kweku I support you 100% on this issue. This non***barred word*** must be stopped. Do they have to destroy properties because their halls have been converted to mixed? This is shameful and I feel sorry for the hypocritical politicians such as Nana B who I admire so much, Afenyo Makins, Okudjeto and the rest of NDC monsters who are supporting this non***barred word***. I wish these students are found and prosecuted. You can't do this here in UK. You will be captured by CCTV and the police will prosecute you and register criminal record on your file which will prevent you from having a position of trust. Absolute non***barred word***.
