Former President John Dramani Mahama is urging the Akufo-Addo government not to run away from the views it championed on loans during its recent days in opposition.
He said, in opposition, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made it look like borrowing was evil, and that they could administer the country without borrowing money.
But after coming into office, the former President noted that the NPP is not only running away from all they said about borrowing but they are also denying their own quotations on the issue.
Addressing NDC delegates at Dodowa in the Shai Osu-Doku constituency of the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, Mr Mahama singled out Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for saying that “borrowing is a lazy man’s way of development”, and that as a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank he knew Ghana is not constrained by money because “the money is here”.
Former President Mahama is therefore asking the Akufo-Addo government to eat a humble pie and apologise to Ghanaians for doing the reverse of what its position was on financing government programmes through loans, especially as it borrowed about 40 billion Ghana Cedis in its first 18 months in government.
Mr Mahama said the NDC borrowed to develop social infrastructure across the country,
including building hospitals, roads, schools, expanding electricity and water, among others, adding that same cannot be said of the NPP.

This is why I think Mahama is a champion and probably the best presidential candidate for NDC. There are so many issues to pick on and campaign for candidacy that any aspirant who campaigns on the persons of competitors is dumb and unfit for the position. 2020 be ye dedeede.
Now I know that Ghana people are not sick of forgetfulness. All comments so far, except one, show that people vividly remember the failures of the Mahama administration. The loooting, insults, deadd goats, flying guinea fowls, bus branding, tree planting, expired fertilisers for cocoa farmers and many more. The election of Hannah Bissiw, who took beds from a hospital after losing election, shows that the NDC does not mean business in politics. Like Bawumia said "let him came, we are waiting for him". The corruption and incompetence patent owner wants to still prove that he has no challenger for his bonafide patent.
Mahama clearly has no message. He should tell us what he is going to do differently and stop wasting our time
Nana Addo will NEVER give a whole bauxite concession just as free to his brother like you WICKEDLY did!
Mahama said two and half years was too short to change the economy of Ghana during his time. Now,somebody spends 20 months in government and you expect him to perform miracles. I have traveled to so many may places in this country of late. I am yet to see any good road Mahama claimed to have constructed during his 8 years. Yet he still goes round shouting about infrastructure he developed for this country. What baffled me was the much touted Eastern Corridor Roads. I am at a loss why the Volta Region chiefs and people allowed themselves to be confused that all their roads were in fantastic shape. But all of a sudden they have realised their roads are bad. And everywhere you go people are talking about bad roads. Mahama, where have your roads gone to?
Why are you still vying for President ? Are you Sure you can manage Ghana again ? Where is Government Brazil Jet purchase report during Professor Mills period ? Who Killed Mills ? Who burnt down Ministry of Health warehouse in Tema ? Where Brazil World cup money report ? etc etc etc etc
The loans are being put in goods and his banks in Dubai and other countries. From Assemblyman to President for 8years, What else do you want ? Mahama Selfish.
YOU ARE STILL TALKING LIKE AN NDC FOOT SOLDIER. WHY DO YOU STILL CALL YOURSELF AN EX PRESIDENT. YOU ARE SO GREEDY AND WANT TO COME BACK TO DO MORE DAMAGE TO GHANA.ALL THE MONIES YOU STOLE YOU ARE STILL NOT SATISFIED AND WANT MORE YOU CANT GET IT THE SECOND TIME GHANAIANS ARE WILD AWAKE. YOU TOOK GHANA'S DEBT FROM NINE BILLION AND LEFT IT AT ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO BILLION WHICH MEANS IN YOUR EIGHT YEARS YOU BORROWED ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN BILLION.UPON ALL THIS YOU COULD NOT PAY CONTRACTORS,NHIS, SCHOOL FEEDING,TEACHERS AND NURSES ALLOWANCES.YOUR PROGRESSIVE FREE SHS DEBT YOU LEFT WAS OVER BILLIONS OF CEDIS AND STILL BRAGGING LIVE GHANA ALONE WE ARE TIRED OF YOUR GREEDYNESS.
Interesting. JM makes a small statement n NPP is shaking. His coming back is really affecting dem paaa.
I don't blame him. The "Battle is the Lord's" is working on him.
