Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to discard the notion that some constituencies, especially in the Ashanti Region, are strongholds of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing delegates of the Bantama constituency at Bantama in the Ashanti Region, as part of his flagbearership campaign tour of the region, Mahama said Ghanaians now look out for a government that will make their lives better and not just love for certain political parties or traditions.
He further said despite the lofty promises of the NPP during their days in opposition, they have saddled Ghanaians with untold hardships after nearly two years in government.
Touching on number of people who have been laid off as a result of the government’s harsh economic policies, Mr. Mahama noted that it is unlikely that those who have lost their jobs will still rally behind the NPP after the government has facilitated the collapse of their businesses and employment.
“So, we should discard the notion that some places are strongholds of the NPP and therefore we cannot win those places. What the voter is looking for is the party that will govern the country properly and give them a good standard of living, as the previous NDC government was doing”, he said.
Mr. Mahama was of the view that with hard work, unity and determination, the NDC will be able to win more votes in the Ashanti Region in the next general elections.
He has therefore charged members of the party, especially the constituency and branch executives, to help unite the party for victory in the 2020 elections.
Mr Mahama said, when elected, he will work hard to provide jobs and reduce the high cost of living in the country.
He has also promised to help constituencies own their offices, compile a database of the human resource capacity of NDC members as well as roll out a mentorship programme for the youth of the party.
The recent NDC executive elections that took place in Accra saw delegates voting against all the Voltarians who contested for front line positions in the party.
Many have said this would cause the NDC to lose votes in the Volta region which happens to be the party’s stronghold.
If the former president Mahama’s claim that no party has a stronghold is anything to go by then he does not see the Volta region as their stronghold as well.

Build your constituency offices now not Ghana money please we are high awake.do it now while in opposition so we trust you
he shd go and also say that in the volta region. in fact, he is even telling the voltarians that they are irrelevant to the ndc but they wont understand bcos the ndc hs eaten deep into their blood. they will never change. but someone shd tell this man to reduce the dosage from the flask. its getting too much.
These alone tells me motive behind the reason why volta region never gets the development it deserved from the NDC party.. Thank you Mr failure.
Frustration has set in. This man is indeed frustrated. He cannot understand why in mathematics one plus one is two. He is trying to over turn all the theories in nature. Since when did he realize that No party has a stronghold in Ghana. Ah !!!! This man needs to be checked at Ankarful Hospital for mind dislocation or brain failure. Very stuuuppiidd on his part to say this in Ashanti region. Let him go to the North and Volta and his brain will tilt to a different direction. Inconsistency on his part. Probably kpokpobiribiri has set in. Peaaaawwwwwww!!!!
SEE THE FUUUUUUUUUUUULISH ***barred word*** AGAIN BIGGER DEFEAT AWAITS U IN 2020
This claim can only be possible under the influence of ALCOHOL! I hope the Voltarians are listening.
Let Mahama deceive himself. History proves beyond reasonable doubt that Volta=NDC and Ashanti =NPP. No question about that. In Ghana you only increase your vote in opposition stronghold by some few percent
Ndc members in the Volta Region should listen to this INCOMPETENT ONE that now no party has a strong hole this means ndc under mahama has fuuulledd the Voltarians for a very long time and has dumped them now. I pity you the Voltarians. NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU
NPP will always be the strong hold of Ashanti Region because of good leadership which is not based on greed. NDC is loosing its strong hold because of you, Mahama with your greed and corruption.
