The Electoral Commission of Ghana has reacted to issues raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The National Democratic Congress, earlier this week, raised concerns about the electoral register for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency ahead of the January 31 by-elections.
The opposition party accused the EC of not providing them with a credible register for the by-election.
The NDC further criticised the leadership of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, saying she may jeopardize the credibility of the election.
According to the NDC, attempts to access the Proxy list, Transfer List and Special Voters List have yielded no results.
But describing the claims as 'untrue', the Commission in a statement said: "the NDC requested a copy of the said lists on Friday, the 25th of January 2019 when the activities at the Commission had winded down. It is significant to note that the author of the press release has unlimited access to the Chairman responsible for operations, and could have reached him without much effort".
"Letters of such nature go through a process of recording at the registry before they are brought to the attention of the addresses. Requests for confidential information require the approval of the Chairperson or Deputy Chairpersons before same are released. Whilst the Commission believes in responding in a timely manner to requests from the political parties, it will not compromise its processes and laid down systems for any entity.
"The Commission finds it surprising, that rather than approaching the Commission to discuss this issue, the NDC chose to go public, accusing the Commission of bloating the register to favour a particular political party. These allegations are baseless and unfounded and we call on the public to disregard them".

Foooolish response, why didn't the EC give all the register to the NDC when they first requested for it but chose to give them only part. If there were other registers why keep those and give part and waited three days after another request was made? That so-called Dr. Bossman should not behave like he is still an NPP lecturer sanctioning election polls at Legon!
@Bone, if even 20% of Ghanaians can reason dispassionately like you, we will go places. This attitude of unflinching political affiliation is killing the soul of our beautiful country. "I am NPP so whatever they do is good. I am NDC so whatever they do is good". Meanwhile this very person has not even got water to drink. Why wouldn't the politicians take us for a ride?
I forsee each government bringing his own EC when power is won, the way NDC is treating the current EC was the same way NPP treated previous EC -as3m b3ba dabi- ghanaian politics
My NDC friends advice your communication team to learn to approach the game of politics with hard core facts not the uncooked ones. In todays Ghana, the public has become very discerning. All of Sudden the same party that was all the time defending the EC when Mrs. Charlotte Osei was running the EC is gradually turning into an opposing party to the EC. NDC ...........hmmmmmmmm
This competent response if you are not careful will consume all of us. Some of you are just too stupiiiiiid.
Dr. Bossman should be in class 1 by now. He does not qualify to hold a degree than to have PhD.
NPP and NDC are the same. They only attack EC when they are in opposition.
How many promises were made to Ghanaians and what percentage of that is the 41 fulfilled promises. That would have been a more measured and truthful information. I have seen street lights, roads, water systems all of a sudden working again within my constituency (Ayawaso). So what exactly am i being told if it must take the death my MP (may his gentle and kind soul rest in peace);and the quest for political power of his baby mama for the tax payer to see proceeds of his/her taxes. Hhhhmmmmm. Ayawaso voters, we will be the best judges if this is what we deserve. I rest my pen and thank you for lending me your eyes, ears and time to see, hear and read my humble thoughts. Thanks again.
a competent response to a baseless allegation. keep the good work new ec boss
