The Appointments Committee of Parliament has put on hold the approval of minister designate for the Bono region, Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, seeking clarifications on several issues including the authenticity of her PhD.
Presenting the committee’s report on the floor of Parliament Tuesday, March 26, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joe Osei Owusu said all the ministers designate but Madam Evelyn have been approved.
He added the committee will report back to the house if it finalizes with the vetting of the outstanding member.
Explaining why Madam Evelyn has not bee approved yet, member of the committee, Sampson Ahi, said she needs to substantiate some statements she made before the committee.
“This was generally agreed that we cannot take a decision on her until she provides those documents, or she provides clarification on those issues as already raised”, he said.

Some of the issues he mentioned were the nominee’s travel to Canada for which she claimed she was audited and cleared. According to Sampson the committee thus requested for a copy of the clearance by the auditors.
“Apart from that she also claimed she had a PhD and so she has submitted the certificate to the Accreditation Board for certification and so we want evidence to that effect”, Mr. Ahi added.
