Member of Parliament for Effutu constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has revealed Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is likely to fall back on government for funds.
According to him, most of the revenue generated by the company is used in treating water from water bodies which have been damaged by the menace of illegal mining, popularly known as ‘Galamsey’.
"It is costing Ghana Water Company more money to treat water; if care is not taken, we may have to go back to government for money to pay our workers . . . if the revenue coming in is not sufficient to manage your affairs, government is supposed to come in,” he indicated.
For this reason, he urged all to stop playing politics with the issue of galamsey and come on board to fight the menace.
"This is not about NPP or Akufo-Addo or any individual who has been recorded and has decided to step back. We should know that no matter the government in power, this affects us all and so we should all help in fighting it," he added.
Afenyo-Markin was discussing the issue of galamsey on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Thursday.
