Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has chastised former Minister of Communication in the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah for speaking ill of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II after revealing that he persuaded former President Mahama to concede defeat in the 2016 election.
The Information Minister described his comment as an act of disrespect and denigration to the Asantehene.
“ . . Omane Boamah was my senior at the Secondary School and he has said something against the Asantehene and I cannot say it on the radio; there was no honour and respect to Otumfuo with regard to what Omane Boamah wrote about him . . . he was very insolent,” he chastised.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the Ofoase-Ayerebi Member of Parliament insisted it is typical of the youth in the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rain insults on elders.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in a bombshell remark said it was through his effort that the former President who was unwilling to accept defeat, conceded.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, said: "at the conclusion of the last presidential and parliamentary elections, the country stood on the edge of disaster. The United Nations representative and the diplomatic community were aghast and alarmed that Ghana was about to slip down the slope of the electoral violence. Fortunately, the moral authority of the palace was at hand. We were able to intervene to persuade the losing candidate to accept his fate and to fly both candidates for a quiet encounter to pave way for a smooth handover."
But the Information Minister maintained that the comment of the Asantehene is not new as he has already mentioned it during his celebration of 20 years on the throne.
“This is not the first time Otumfuo has said this, he said the same thing when we were invited to his 20th anniversary at the Manhyia Palace on live television and perhaps they [NDC] are agitated because he said it on an International platform,” he indicated.
He again indicated that a careful assessment of the speech of the Asantehene reveals that it is what happened in the 2016 election, when the NDC led by former President Mahama was not ready to step down.
He alluded his claim to the fact that the NDC held a press conference to announce that they were in a "comfortable lead" immediately after the EC Chairperson had issued a statement that the EC website had been hacked.
The Information Minister, however, wondered why former President John Dramani Mahama is so eager to go back to the Presidency after being successful as “MP, Deputy Minister, Minister, Vice President, President and now former President”.
“Someone will ask that, what at all was around the Presidency that Mahama didn’t want to let go? And, what is it that he wants with the Presidency again that he is still struggling at all cost . . . what at all is he looking for at the Presidency that he wants to go back to?” he wondered.
But in a sharp response, former Minister of Communication, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has said that the Information Minister is being petty for drawing that conclusion.
Dr. Omane Boamah on his social media handle had written that, “Ahead of election 2020 expect more lies against John Mahama” #Bigmencanlie. “Big men too can lie! Oh, Ghana!

What do you want the minister to say about the Taadi girls? Is he the IGP or was it the government who commissioned the kidnappers to abduct the girls and end their lives this way? So we should let go a serious revelation like this about your greedy and power drunk Mahama who after tasting every political power at all levels, still wants to be president. It is a taboo for a river to flow backwards.
Npp is a disappointment. It looks as if they think take Ghanaians as fuuuuulls. So many problems is hanging on your neck but nun sense is what interests you. These guys are devilish. An information minister is supposed to organize press conference and speak about critical issues plaguing the country.
My friend, talk about your stuppidd mess on the takoradi girls who are dead. Incompetent group of ediots! There are very serious issues at hand, but information minister is spinning otumfour's speech.
What has SHS placement got to do with the subject matter.. I thought the NDC does not believe in FREE SHS.. Every child who is qualify for place will not be left out.. Parents are saving their monies becos of free SHS.. they would have been paying not less than 3 THOUSAND gh just for admission...Ghana is working again
We all know the respect Otumfuo has for both former and current president..So its sad the way the NDC are addressing this issue.. I still think that if we give Mahama another second chance we will die in this country becos this small boys wolfs will chew us..Even in opposition look at the level of arrogance they are displaying..God have mercy
@Ge is it not true that the NDC announce that they were in a comfortable lead when the facts was showing otherwise.. please let stop the insult and address the issues.. Even in opposition they are still displaying arrogance..This is not the first time Otumfuo has said this so why this reaction..We all know what he did in Dagbon.. If u listen to Otumfuos speech very well he was not trying to denigrate any former and present president, all he was trying to say is the important roles traditional heads play in our modern politics.. Please our NDC FOLKS should read small and stop the insults.. If I hear all this insults from Sammy Gyamfi, Omane Boamah, Otokunnor and then u expect me to vote for the NDC...

HE WANTS TO BE LIKE MUGABE DIE ON THE [PRESIDENCY (SEAT).THAT OMANE BOAMA OR WHATEVER HE CALLS HIMSELF AND THE LIKES ARE ALSO DOING THIS CHEAP AND UNPOPULAR POLITICS ALL BECAUSE OF THEIR STOMACH. DON'T GIVE THEM EARS.THEY ARE THE GREEDY BASTARDS.
Is Kojo and the government aware that potential SHS students and parents are in the sun and rains at the independence square and for weeks now can't make a headway about thier placements. Let's be serious as a nation and show we care about these children who are the future of this country please. Otumfuo has so many subjects who speak for him. But i blame the sycophant media who after they have dinned with the powers that be go to bed and cannot set the right agenda for discussion as a nation. God, please drop NDC/NPP and save our motherland GHANA. Please God help us.
This hypocritical attitude of Ghanaians is nauseating. is it because it was the Asantehene who said that or what? Is the chief no a human being? can't he make mistakes? secondly what at all was the current president looking for around the presidency that he had to fight with all his blood and give promises he can't fulfil to be? Now see the mess this country is in. NPP government is a failure and the least said about them and their ministers the best for our ears.
