Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has fiercely challenged former President John Dramani Mahama to mention just one legacy he left for the North during his reign as President of the Republic from 2012-2016.
Dr. Bawumia threw the challenge on Sunday 24th November 2019 when he joined the Chiefs and people of Nandom Traditional Area to celebrate the 31st annual Kakube Festival at Nandom in the Upper West Region.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bawumia questioned: “H.E John Mahama should tell Ghanaians one legacy that he left in Northern Ghana, just one when he was President for four and half years. What legacy did he leave?
"Is it the SADA that he left as a legacy for the North or it's the Guinea fowls that he left for Northerners" he rhetorically quizzed.
Vice President Bawumia noted that President Kwame Nkrumah left a legacy, Prime Minister Busia left a legacy, President Rawlings left a legacy, President Kufuor introduced the NHIS, free maternal health care, National School Feeding Programme, the LEAP Programme, Youth Employment Authority (YEA), Metro Mass amongst others.
"President Akufo- Addo has introduced the Planting for Food and Jobs, Free SHS, One Village One Dam, Zongo Development Fund, Rearing for Food and Jobs (RFJ), One Constituency One Ambulance, One District One Factory, One District One Warehouse. The construction of the Pwalugu Dam will also start this year. In addition, the President has brought peace to Dagbon and created two new regions (Savannah and North East). These are legacies President Akufo- Addo will be leaving after his tenure as President. What legacies can former President Mahama point to?" he asked.
The “Kakube” Festival is celebrated to mark the end of the farming season each year and to show appreciation to God for his guidance and protection during the farming season.
Since the festival historically takes its roots from agriculture, Dr Bawumia used the occasion to assess agricultural productivity in the three years of President Akufo-Addo’s government in the Nandom district to see the progress so far.
He recounted from some of the government’s agricultural-related flagship programmes such as the Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, Rearing for Food and Jobs, and One Village, One Dam, noting that the results were encouraging.
"For instance 12,711 farmers are benefiting under the Planting for Food and Jobs with a total cropped area of 18,014 hectares. Also, as a result of the subsidised fertilisers, seeds and other farm inputs provided by the government together with the timely sensitisation of farmers on agronomic practices by MOFA staff, there has been a quantum leap in crop yield in the Nandom Municipality. Farming season crop yield in the Municipality increased by 30% in 2018," the Vice President stated.
"Under the Planting for Export and Rural Development, so far a total of 68,000 cashew seedlings/seeds have been procured and distributed to about 600 farmers in 33 communities across the district. This intervention is expected in the long run to be a reliable source of income for farmers," he added.

u ve lost ur credibility now, do u think if this has been this posture n unguarded lamentation, when u were campaigning power, pple would have given you audience. u ve lost ur integrity. should always compare yourself to Mahama. We taught u were a technocrat.
OSAGYEFO DR. KWAME NKRUMAH WHO IS UNDOUBTEDLY THE BEST PRESIDENT EVER OF GHANA LEFT NOTHING FOR HIS PEOPLE OF NZEMA LAND. YET HIS (NKRUMAH) LEGACIES ARE STILL FELT BY MANY, MANY GHANAIANS INCLUDING THE PEOPLE OF NZEMA LAND. NOT EVERY ETHNIC GROUP CAN BE PRESIDENT AND THE PRESIDENT IS NOT ELECTED BY AND FOR A PARTICULAR ETHNIC GROUP. IF THAT IS THE KIND OF MY*O*_PIC INTENTUIONS YOU HARBOR THEN I AM VERY SORRY TO SAY YOU ARE TO CLOSE BUT FAR FROM THE PRESIDENCY.
So u still under the shadow of Ex President Mahatma? Why any given opportunity u discuss him soo much, grow up, Ghanaians are suffering
Why wouldn't you stop talking about Mahama and his past government and het to work. His ghost is haunting yourself and your master.
Thank you Pep!! Mahama is always commenting on national issues, and making comments. Sammy Gyamfi, Asiedu Nketia and the Minority are always issuing statements and holding Press Conferences and that's Ok but the moment Bawumia speaks the whole NDC shakes
***barred word*** is knowing and seeing the truth but lies about it. Bawumia, you make yourself a subject of ridicule each time you speak.
Mahama's legacy for the north is maintaining the honesty northerners are known to possess. Same cannot be said of you. You have virtually opened us up to ridicule through your numerous lies. I'm not sure even your father of blessed memory will not be happy with you. You have tarnish the once highly distinguished name (Bawumia) to Bawumlair.
This is a sad commentary. Bawumia, you are educated. Why all this allusion to tribe and ethnicity? Why are you as vice president of this country challenging your predecessors on the basis of development of tribes and ethnicity? Why can't we leave tribe, region and ethnicity out of our political discourse and only seek to perpetuate same for our own gain? Come again. Talk about a national agenda and not tribal agenda? I am a proud ewe and my wife a proud gonja. But this kind of talk doesn't help anyone and definitely not my children. I try to teach them, they are Ghanaians. Do your part.
This is the argument we should all as Ghanaians confront ourselves with. Mahama succeeded his own government and as a vice President. You were working with sick president so most of the errands were being done by you mahama. So for the 4 years that he was in active service can Mahama compare his performance with Akufo Addo's 3 years? Let us stop this propaganda and be serious with the argument. Mahama failed woefully and Ghanaians should not consider him as an alternative to Nana Addo. NDC is only wasting everybody s' time and Ghanaians must be watchful about them.
