The National Democratic Congress(NDC) has asked the President to order the arrest and also sack the Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority(NIA) for flouting his directive to stop all public gathering amid the conoravirus.
According to them, a single act puts the whole country at risk of the pandemic.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Boamah Otokunor explained that the President should show leadership and call the NIA Boss to order otherwise his effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus will be in vain.
"What at all does the NIA boss want, whose interest is he serving with the continuation of the registration exercise?" he rhetorically asked.
"We have all shown class and commitment to fight this disease but the NIA boss seems to thwart everybody’s effort," he said.
He added that if the President is this much concerned, then he should call Prof. Ken Attafuah to order, other than that the NDC will advise itself as a party.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has asked the National Identification Authority (NIA) to suspend with immediate effect the ongoing mass registration exercise in the Eastern Region.
In a statement signed by the President of the GMA, Dr. Frank Ankobea, and its General-Secretary, Dr. Justice Yankson, the GMA said it is in the interest of Public Health and Safety to suspend the exercise, since if allowed to continue it could create fertile grounds for potential spread of COVID-19, endangering the lives of NIA staff, the communities involved and an entire nation in the process.
The statement went further to say: “Mass registration exercise also defeats the spirit and letter of the directives (especially on mass gathering) issued by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana as part of the measures to combat the COVID-19 outbreak in the country”.

THE CALL FOR POSTPONEMENT OF NIA REGISTRATION WAS VERY IRRESPONSIBLEEEE. IT RUSHED THE PEOPLE INTO THE NIA CENTERS FOR THE FEAR THAT THEY MAY NOT GET TO BE REGISTERED. GHANAIANS HAVE COME TO VALUE THE USE OF GHANA CARD AND THE CALL FOR THE POSTPONEMENT CREATED FEAR AND PUNIC. IT WAS NOT HELPFUL. IT MADE THE WORK FOR NIA STAFF VERY DIFFICULT. THOSE CONCERNED SHOULD HAVE SUGGESTED TO ENHANCE THE OPERATIONS OF NIA, WHICH IN FACT THEY WERE ALREADY DOING.
IT WAS PITIFUL FOR CHRAG TO WADE INTO NIA REGISTRATION. THE OFFICE OF CHRAG WAS RENDERED WORTHLESS WHEN MAHAMA APPOINTED ITS BOSS AFTER LOOSING THE 2016 ELECTIONS. IT WAS DISGRACEFULLL FOR MAHAMA TO MAKE THAT APPOINTMENT AND THE ACCEPTANCE OF THAT APPOINTMENT ROBBEDDD THAT OFFICE OF ANY INTEGRITY.
THINGS SHOULD BECOME CLEAR NOW TO EVERY OPEN-MINDED GHANAIAN THAT THERE IS NO COMMITMENT ON THE PART OF THE NPP AND ITS GOVERNMENT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM CREATED BY COVID-19. IF THE GOVERNMENT WOULD SIT DOWN UNCONCERNED FOR POLITICAL REASONS AND ALLOW THE NIA TO CONTINUE TO FLOUT DIRECTIVES ISSUED BY THE GOVERNMENT WITHOUT REGARDS FOR THE SAFETY OF GHANAIANS AND GO AHEAD WITH THE REGISTRATION OF PEOPLE IN THE EASTERN REGION, THEN THEY (NIA) SHOULD CONTINUE. BY THEIR ACTIONS THEY WILL BETRAY THEMSELVES. THE NPP UNDER NANA ADDO IS BEHAVING AS IF WE ARE IN A MILITARY REGIME. NO ONE CARES ABOUT POWER NOW MORE THAN THE HEALTH OF GHANAIANS IT IS ONLY THE NPP THAT THINKS CONTRARY TO WHAT EVERYONE WORLD WIDE IS THINKING.
THE PROPHETS OF DOOM, NDC, MUST KNOW THAT WE CANNOT SHUTDOWN THE NATION. THE GATHERING OF NIA REGISTRANTS MUST CONTINUES JUST LIKE LIFE CONTINUES AT MARKETS, THE MALLS AND OTHER PLACES. ALL WORKING SERVICES MUST BE ADVISED TO IMPROVE THEIR CONDITIONS OF THEIR ENVIRONMENT FOR SAFETY. ONE MIGHT ARGUE THAT WHY SHOULD CHURCHES, MOSQUES AND FUNERALS BE BANNED? CHURCHES ND MOSQUES OPERATES IN DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENT. THE CONGREGANTS ALMOST ALWAYS GATHERED IN AN ENCLOSED PLACE. AGAIN CHURCH AND MOSQUE SERVICES INVOLVES SINGING, SHOUTING, OR EXCLAMATIONS THAT EASILY BRINGS OUT THE VIRUS FROM AN INFECTED PERSON TO SPREAD. WE ALSO KNOW THAT GENERALLY FUNERAL GATHERINGS OF GHANAIANS INVOLVES MANY PEOPLE GATHERED WITH ALL MANNER OF ENGAGEMENTS AND GREETINGS. NIA REGISTRATION DOES NOT INVOLVE ANYTHING LIKE THAT. IF NDC WOULD LIKE THE NIA REGISTRATION TO STOP THEN THEY SHOULD AS WELL EXPECT PARLIAMENT, THE COURTS, THE BANKS, THE MEDIA HOUSES AND EVEN THE HOSPITALS TO CLOSE DOWN. WE MAY AS WELL CANCEL ELECTIONS IN DECEMBER 2020 FOR WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE PANDEMIC WILL END. AMERICA IS MORE HIT THAN GHANA AND YET THEY HAVE JUST HAD THEIR PRIMARIES FOR THE DEMOCRATS WHICH WAS VERY MUCH ENGAGING THAN NIA REGISTRATION. NDC IS BEHAVING AS IF THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO GAIN FROM COVID-19. THIS PANDEMIC CANNOT BECOME A POLITICAL GAME. NIA HAS JUST ONE WEEK TO FINISH NATIONWIDE. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO DISRUPT THAT PROGRAM. NDC MUST BEHAVE AS A SERIOUS POLITICAL PARTY AND STOP THE EVIL WISHFUL THINKING.
Go ahead and arrest him. You guys are jokers in the party called NDC. Did the Prof ask people to leave their homes and throng the registrations centres? Is it compulsory that people gather to wait and be registered? What type of warped logic is this? NDC just stop that unnecessary noise. come up with workable solutions and not needless criticisms. good day Ghana
THIS GUY TALKS AS UG1Y AS HIS FACE AND MOUTH.NO WONDER,HE CAN ONLY BE PRAISED IN THE NDC.
