Member of Parliament for Juaboso Constituency, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has chastised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for taking advantage of the COVID-19 situation to rehash his 2016 campaign promise.
Government, will this year, begin the construction of 88 Hospitals in districts without such facilities, according to President Akufo-Addo.
Delivering his eighth televised address to the nation on the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus in the country on Sunday, April 26, 2020, the President said: "There are eighty-eight (88) districts in our country without district hospitals; we have six (6) new regions without regional hospitals; we do not have 5 infectious disease control centres dotted across the country, and we do not have enough testing and isolation centres for diseases like COVD-19. We must do something urgently about this. That is why Government has decided to undertake a major investment in our healthcare infrastructure, the largest in our history. We will, this year, begin constructing eighty-eight (88) hospitals in the districts without hospitals."
But the Ranking Member on Health is doubtful of the president's words and commitment.
His lack of conviction is premised on the fact that the promise made by President Akufo-Addo is not something new as he (Akufo-Addo) identified this particular problem - inadequate healthcare infrastructure - in the party's 2016 manifesto.
To him, it is thus pretentious on the part of the President to make it seem like a new challenge, which has arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“What he said is not something new; it is a rehash of his campaign promise in their manifesto and the reason also is that before Nana Addo became President, he identified this problem in their manifesto and so he is not now realising this problem. He deliberately refused to address them because he has already said that every district without hospitals will have one and this is captured in their manifesto”, he chastised.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Hon. Mintah Akandoh, noted that per the President's last address to Ghanaians on COVID-19, he has opened the floodgates for the politicization of the fight against the pandemic, and entreated him to limit his address to only finding immediate solutions.
“The President should know his status as a President when addressing the nation on the state of the COVID-19. We are obliged to listen to the President and help him fight the COVID-19, but the moment he switches into political promises then there will be issues because when it comes to political campaign promises, the President has a certain pedigree....
“So, if the President comes to paint a picture as if he has now seen the need to build district hospitals due to the COVID-19, then it is not true, the President was not truthful to us because there was no COVID-19 in 2016. He should prove me wrong if he didn’t promise this to Ghanaians in the party's manifesto”, he chided.

AKANDO KOBENA MINTAH,IF YOU ARE TOO SURE OF YOURSELF THEN STEP INTO THE RING AS MAHAMAH,s VICE.TAKE A BOLD STEP OF FAITH AND I THROW YOU A CHALLENGE-WISE MAN OF TODAY. EVEN IF THE HOSPITALS ARE NOT TRUE AND ARE WITHIN THE LIST OF NANA ADDO,s PLANS WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM NOW?KEEP QUIET AND LET WISE PEOPLE TALK SENSE AT TIME OF THIS PANDEMIC.TRAVEL AND SEE:SALUTE
The president's manifesto page 33/34 clearly says district hospitals to be built. So why wait till CONVID-19 approximately 8 months to leave office before informing the public. If it's not campaign then what is it. Enough of the lies. Let us put tribe aside and vote for performance and substance and chaff. Remember Ghana is ghanaians- we need development, unemployment is rising- what is the administration doing. No more excuses
Allotey thinks of where his bread is coming from and not what happens to ghanaians in this pandemic. The mp is using common sense to question the capabilities and inconsistencies with the president because it has been proven time and time that he is not consistent. It is crystal clear that there is confusion in the system because we are not being told the truth whether its NDC or NPP both are interested in winning election 2020. The other thing I found out from the interview is that host asked unintelligent questions and openly displayed his party alliance. Sometimes these guys forget or are not trained to certain questions. The media stations need to wise up and stop the infantile myopic approach. This is the reason Ghana is not developing. China is boiling with black skin guys to the extend that USA has issued warning and advice. What is Ghana doing especially having connived with chinese to mine gold -galamsey at the expense of locals. Elections in Ghana should be on performance and not stupiiid tribal and myopic shiiit
Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, please learn from your friend and member of the NDC party, Mr Allotey Jacobs. Allotey Jacobs speaks from his political experince.Experince is the best teacher. Its too early to rush and criticise the idea of building and expanding 88 hospitals in the country. COVID 19 has exposed the weakness of health structures of many countries of the global world. This was confirmed by the WHO. "The whole world is witnessing, and experincing the weak helath systems and lack of health facilities of many countires as the COVID 19 exploded to the four corners of the world. The advice from the Boss of WHO is for every country to expand her health infrastrutures to meet the demands of her citizens. Based upon such advice from WHO and what ghana is experincing with its weak, poros, health structures and facilities, has compelled the president of the republic of ghana to initiates the idea of building and expanding 88 hospitals for ghanaians. The role of the biggest opposition party in ghanaian politics is nothing but a "watch dog", hunting for the truth based on reality. Ghana is at the moment experincing a government that promises with fantastic ideas but does not reflect the reality on the ground. "Expansion of 88 hospitals in Ghana?" Ghanaians from all walks of life reacted swiftly to the wonderful idea from the president but at the same time reminding him of the umcompleted hospitals and clinics projects in the urban and rural ares in Ghana, that his predecessors had invested huge amount of money into them. This is what is bodering ghanaians. What is the NPP government doing with the existing uncompleted clinics in the urban and rural areas of Ghana??? Seemingly Akuffo Addo is been political ( election year) and his sincerity is been questioned by Ghanaians. Its a clear opportunity for the opposition to capitalise on this idea of expansion of 88 hospitals in the country, for their campaing rallies, hence the reflections from Mr Allotey Jacobs, NDC be patient and "wait and see" time will tell. The reflections of the seasoned politician, Mr. Allotey Jacobs is explicit: "Eventually, if the Akkufo Addo administration fails his promise of building 88 hospitals for ghanaians???" Doubts and scepticism is on the faces of ghanaians and they will be exercising their votes come December 2020 based on this 88 hospital saga. Allotey Jacobs comments: Time will tell, NDC be patient. The party has advantage.
NDC has never had a serious plan for this country and if they copy a plan from other parties, they use the plan to create, loot and share the money. Look at what Mahama did to his own people in the North. They never plant trees or produced fowls but shared the money which could have built 88 hospitals Nana is talking about. A party with small minds. NDC will be in opposition for long time. What is in Akando's head. Absolutely nothing
Boot licker all over defending king promise. I have never seen an oldman who can tell lies like this our man. Is a shame.
WHEN NANA ADDO PROMISED PACKED LUNCH , FREE WATER AND 50% REDUCED ELECTRICITY, NANA ADDO WASN'T DOING COMPAIGN. NOW GOVERNMENT PROMISES 88 HOSPITALS AND NDC IS TALKING OVER THEIR VOICES. WHAT DO THEY (NDC) THINK WE NEED IN THIS COVID-19 PANDEMIC, A CLASSROOMS OR NEW AIRPORT. WHY IS NDC ALWAYS FAILING GHANAIANS INSTEAD ASKING YOUR SO CALLED COVID-19 PROFESSIONAL TO EVALUATE WHAT GOVERNMENT IS SAYING AND PROPERLY HELP GOVERNMENT TO EXECUTE THIS AGENDA PERHAPS ONE OF THOSE HOSPITALS CAN SITED AT YOUR CONSTITUENCY. NDC IS THERE SHOUTING IMPOSSIBLE, NANA ADDO CAN'T DO, SOME ARE EVEN SAYING THEY NEARLY CATCH COVID-19, TIME HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS NOBLE IDEA IF THEY SET THE GROUND WORKING.
Kwabena mintah Akando””de3 Gyimigyimii saaa “i pity those Who voted for him
I love the way NPP executes cash demanding projects like Free SHS, Nursing & Teacher trainee allowances, PFJ, 1V1D, 1D1F, Ambulances, Astro Turfs, Railways, Roads, SHS expansion projects, Digitalization, Warehouses, free food, water & electricity and now hospitals. This gives less room for loose monies to be available and squandered by politicians
Trust me characters like Akando will prolong NDC stay in opposition because they neve make any sense in all their submission , NDc should understand that politics is all about people talking plenty will not win them any elections in Ghana easily so they should rethink about their current strategy . NDC is prepare grounds for another humiliating defeat because the more Akando talks the more they loose potential voter
