Influential cousin of President Akufo-Addo, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has incurred the wrath of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Ofosu Kwakye for questioning the basis for which Ketu South Constituency in the Volta Region is the most populous constituency in the country in terms of names on the current voter roll.
Gabby, a very vocal member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in two separate tweets on his social media account has sought to cause a discussion on how the NDC stronghold holds the number one position of the most populous constituency in the current voter roll based on socio-economic factors.
“Out of Ghana’s 275 constituencies, Ketu South is the most populous constituency in Ghana in terms of the number of names on the electoral role. Why and How? Discuss...... Ketu South constituency has 149, 219 registered voters. Dome Kwabenya follows with 144, 624 registered voters, with Ledzokuku, 142, 995 and the Ablekuma Central, 137, 154. Discuss the economic and/or social activities which give Ketu South the largest electoral roll in Ghana.” He posted on Twitter.
The question by the NPP member whose party has openly declared support for the compilation of a new voter register received a lot of backlash from other tweeps who seemed sympathetic the opposition NDC – one of the political parties to have kicked against the idea of a new voter register for the December polls.

Former Deputy Information Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration described the tweet as ethnocentric.
Mr. Kwakye questioned whether Gabby would rather have Kyebi, the hometown of President Akufo-Addo as the most populous constituency on the nations voter roll.
“This is ethnocentrism of the most undesirable kind. The exact reason why Ketu South shouldn’t be the most populous is what? You would rather Kyebi was the most populous?” He wrote.

The NDC knows this registration exercise is touching on the very nerve center of their past electoral "success". It spells the end of their political tradition if the register is properly done. How Felix, animatedly throws in the tribal card should tell you volumes. It is the reason they're fighting tooth and nail to stop this registration exercise. This group of a political party wouldn't have ruled Ghana in the first place, if we did the right thing. Come to think of it, how does re-doing a poll register PREVENT the NDC from getting its members to register, how? If you have members, take them to the registration center, show documentary proof that they qualify to be on the register, that one too has become a MAJOR problem for well over 2 years? NDC is on its way out ----CPP get ready to take your rightful place of pride on the Ghanaian political left stage. I'm on the right side anyway...
That's the nature of the NDC. Anytime you ask them piercing questions they have no answers for, they quickly resort to use their dirty tribal tactics. According to the population census, there are approximately 97,000 people in Ketu South who fall between the age bracket of 15 years and above. Now if we take out those between the age brackets of 15-17 from the figure, the voting population will hover around 92,000. So how come the registered voters in ketu south is 149,219? Gabby compared Ketu South with constituencies like Ledzokuku. Do we have only Akans staying in Ledzokuku? Don't we have Ewes staying in Ledzokuku? Its only those with weak minds who will applaud Felix for shamefully whipping tribal sentiments.
I’m completely surprised you’ll want to drag this into something else. Can we as a people raise any discussion concerning places we’re not from ? Come on guys ,whether is Obuasi or Paga it’s one Ghana, and Ghanaians should be able to have the freedom to share their opinions on any matter that may arise there.
Okyere Darko must not draw the Ketu south into the dirty tribal politics associated with of the myopic, primitive and subcultures of the Akyem and Ashanti bushmen. Garby must thank Nkrumah forcing the Akyem and Ashantis to be part of the civilized Ghanaians society.
Ketu south people are more descent than a tradition of bomb throwers, ritual killers, Nation looters, coup champions, political arsonists and political butchers from Akyem/Ashanti forests who slaughtered Major Mahama, Amed Suale and Yaa Na and forty royals for political power or religious rituals.
Thats all they know to do. Throw in tribal sentiments into a perfectly simple and normal debate. Can we not discuss issues of national importance without throwing in tribal sentiments, Kwakye Ofosu?
