The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has climaxed its three-day national fasting and prayer with a National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service for the December 7 general election.

The thanksgiving service which was held at the Perez Dome last Sunday (December 30), on the theme: "Seek Peace & Pursue It (Psalm 34:14), brought together heads of some religious bodies in Ghana such as the Ghana Pentecostal And Charismatic Council (GPCC), National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC) the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Ghana Charismatic Bishops' Conference.

Present was the Chairman of the (CCG), Rev. Dr Paul Kwame Boafo,  the President of the GPCC, Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong-Manso, the founder of Action Chapel International (ACI), Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, the founder of Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, and the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

Peace

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams stressed the need for peace to prevail as the country geared up for the polls on December 7.

"Peace is a state of tranquillity. There cannot be prosperity in any country or region of our world without peace. Tranquillity produces stability, and stability produces creativity which produces productivity and leads to prosperity. A nation cannot prosper when there is war, conflict or unrest. That land will not go anywhere," he stated.

Divine direction

Taking inspiration from 1 Timothy 2:1-4m, he said peaceful coexistence among people was a divine directive from the almighty God.

"Peace can be obtained when we pray for those in authority. If we seek peace, and want the kind of peace that comes from Elohim, we have to pray for our leaders," he explained.

Archbishop Duncan Williams also led the gathering to pray against any situation that had the potential of throwing the nation into civil unrest and compromise the peace of Ghana, before, during and after the elections.

Prayers

Intercessory prayers were offered for peace to prevail before, during and after the 2020 general election. Prayers were also offered for the Electoral Commission (EC), the  political parties and their presidential candidates; the three arms of government, the security services and the media.
