NPP Former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East constituency, Edward Ennin, has disagreed with comments made by the spokesperson of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Gideon Boako.
Dr Boako on his Facebook page waded into controversies surrounding a gentleman's agreement between President Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyerematen.
Per the supposed agreement, Akufo Addo promised Alan in 2007 that he will take over from him after he completes his tenure as President.
Dr Boako, however, believes Alan "forfeited" it by running against then candidate Akufo-Addo prior to the election of an NPP flagbearer for the 2012 and 2016 polls; thus the agreement no longer holds.
“So I go into a contest with you. I get more votes than you but not sufficient enough to secure me the required 50% plus 1. You came next to me and instead of a second round contest you concede to me. That’s nice. I acknowledge you in my acceptance speech and in order to ensure greater unity I indicate that you will come after me....Instead of keeping to the commitment of conceding to me to go again so you can come after, you contested me. I lost and decided to go again and there again you did not concede to me but contested me,” he explained... Once you do this, you have withdrawn the commitment you made to me. Should the assurance I gave you still hold even after you subsequently withdrew your commitment to me on two separate occasions? Once you withdrew your commitment the consequential assurance from me also stands withdrawn,” he wrote on Facebook.
But Edward Ennin has questioned the temerity of Dr Bawumia’s spokesperson to pass such comments.
He wondered if Dr Boako was commissioned by the President to make those divisive remarks.
"It's because of things like this that's why I'm losing interest in politics...Gideon Boako was once sympathetic to Alan's cause but now because of personal interests, he's shifted camp..methinks it'sone of the cheapestmeans of making it.....in Africa because of our stomachs and what we will eat it's difficult to speak the truth...who is Gideon Boako to make such comments?....it's a video gone viral and we all heard the promise of Nana (the president)....does Gideon now speak for Nana or he was sent by President Akufo-Addo (to spoke to this matter)?....other than that I don't understand what he is talking about...so because the person contested Akufo-Addo two times the agreement no longer stands? Gideon should know that we believe in the tradition in the NPP..." he said in an interview on Neat FM's Me Man Nti programme.

I agree with you Ceejay 100%. I have been preaching same on different platforms. The best of both worlds… A north- south ticket with MMB as the Prez candidate and Allan cash as the VP for 2024.
I think Dr Gideon Boako made a good analysis of the issue. A brilliant observation by a good economist as such. All he ask was hypothetical . And it is only brilliant minds that will appreciate such analysis. His questions brings out the truth. If you agree with some one and later that same person contest you on the same issue then the agreement am afraid does not hold. Having said that , unity must be ensured if the party wants to win the next election. Any attempt to push another Akan person will play into the hands of their opponent that the party is only an Akan party and feed opinions on the street. General voters in the main election will not entertain that . The best thing to do I think is to pair Alan with Dr Bawumia. With Dr Bawumia and Alan as vice will kill the Anti Akan agenda and also ensure unity in the party. Alan being a vice president is not bad at all. Its better to be vice president than to loose election which will be very likely if Dr Bawumia is ignored. Majority of the votes in the north will be lost if Dr Bawumia is ignored. Ashanti alone cannot deliver the win fro what happened in the past election. Alan should Sacrifice his personal ambition for the greater good.
***barred word*** debate. Dr. Boako doesnt need to comment on this. Akkufo Addo is mtvBawumia. If Akuffo Addo had said this it has no value. Akoffo Addo is neither NPP delegates nor Dr. Bawumia. He cannot impose Alan on NPP even if he wishes him to be flagbearer. It is just mere a political talk. Alan and Bawumia and their supporters dont need to rely on such statement. For me the issue between Alan and Bawumia is a struggle between Industrilization and digitization. It is a global struggle. Which of the two is more relevant for Ghana situation to become a priority. We should leave the two to make their case in the local context.
Allan go to the skies, we want vote for him, it's Bawumiah's. The party is not for only Akans. The posturing of you and your allides tells me that you still habour wicked plans about the president.
Until now,I had respect for you Ennin but with this question, you are dropped to minus 99. 9%. How can someone who has been a member of parliament before asked this unfounded question? What has the president gotten to do with this?Is Gideon the spokesperson for the president? What do you want to achieve by bringing in the president's name? I see that you aggrieved because the president didn't give you any position in his government.
