Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has reportedly invited the 98 NPP MPs threatening to boycott the 2023 budget presentation should the current Finance Minister go ahead to read it in parliament.
The meeting Starr News understands is for the former leader to resolve the standoff that has prevailed over the past weeks.
Spokesperson for the agitating MPs Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi publicly announced the decision and stated that they have resolved to get Ken Ofori-Atta out this time.
The NPP MPs had earlier softened their stance following a meeting with the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.
In a statement signed by Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, President Akufo-Addo had appealed for the sector minister to be allowed to stay till after the budget presentation and appropriation of same, to which the MPs had agreed.
But the aggrieved MPs are convinced it is time for the beleaguered Finance Minister to leave amidst the minority censure motion laid in the House.
“We’ve gone back to (our demand for the President to) sack him now and therefore should the budget be presented under the stamp of the Finance Minister, we’ll not participate because as far as we’re concerned we’re never going to do business with him.
“And if we’re not going to do business with him, he does not participate in any process from the Presidency to the House. We will not participate in deliberations too.” Appiah-Kubi told Joy Fm.
It remains to be seen whether the group will compromise its position the second time after the former President’s intervention.

Whatever the case is these elephants MPs have shown their gross incompetence by being selfish and not working hard to ensure that government business goes through smoothly! They shouldn’t ever forget the political traps (P)NDC set for them in 2016 and it’s repercussions effects on the Ghanaian economy and how in 2017 they worked their hearts out only for them to let PNDC’s propaganda and them not campaigning hard but decide to pick and choose who should become an MP leading to their loosing their majority in Parliament! A party which believes in empowering the private Ghana through education and development should not allow PNDC to mislead them! When they claimed that Ghanaians-that is their constituents are demanding the removal of the finance minister I was expecting them that they would backed that with survey or research data! Why do they allow PNDC who have bought almost all the radio stations in Gh deceive them in making such moves? Have they forgotten how they ( that is PNDC ) almost eroded the good development initiated by JAK? I’m grateful that unlike JAK all these things are happening two years before elections! Nka you have handed somehow to the (P)NDC on a silver platter! Even after the reduction of petrol by 1 Cedis and 3 cedis on desiel none of the radio stations are agitating for the reduction of transportation fares! And yet these GPRTU would start to complain should the government give them competition in that sector! Like JAK , Nana must be bold to implement certain decisions!
Ex-President Kuffour has a difficult mission for bringing unity amoung the members of the elephant family. The Elephant family have been deeply divided under the leadership of NanaAkufo-Addo and his vice president, Bawumia. All levels of the party from grassroots to the executive level have been in one way or the other deeply affected with hatred and divisions. Akufo-Addos ambition had been fufilled as the party worked hard for him to attain that position, as president of the republic. But today his life style and his uterances had caused despaire within the party. I believe no amounts of words from the old gentel soldier, John Kuffour will bring the children of the elephant together. Its very clear that the big elephant has to reatreat to the opposition come 2024 for reorganisation, reunification with repentance and forgivness among the members of the Party.
