The sitting Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu constituency, Alhassan Bashir Fuseini, popularly known as Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, will no longer return to Parliament in 2025.
The lawmaker unfortunately lost his seat during Saturday’s primaries organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He polled 333 votes while his opponent, Atta Issah received overwhelming votes by polling 801 to emerge winner to contest the 2024 elections on the ticket of the party.
The other contenders Yakubu Ahmed, Abdul Majeed Alhassan and Hamza Bukari Zakaria polled 118, 42 and 27 votes respectively.
The NDC Parliamentary election results in the Sagnarigu constituency came as a shock as supporters of the party and his colleagues in Parliament wondered what could have been the reason for the defeat of Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini.
But former PNC National Chairman, Bernard Mornah has revealed the main reason that led to the defeat.
He disclosed on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show that the incumbent MP was voted out because he is poor.
According to him, there are times it became very difficult for the MP to find money for transportation to his constituency, thus this chiefly contributed to his loss.
"I think one of his major flaws is that Alhaji simply was poor in terms of money. He has no money...There are instances that Alhaji wants to go his constituency and he will be struggling to make money to go to his constituency", he said.
He wondered how the delegates expected Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini to spend on them as it has been the culture in Ghana's politics to see aspirants financially inducing electorates to vote for them.
"The man didn't have. How would he give something that he didn't have?", Bernard Mornah expressed as he pitied the MP.

Smh!!!!! All these people get to be on national platform to engage in childish politics. It will get worser than this. Trust me. Both the station and the person speaking have complicated issues to handle.
Hmmmmm, if ABA lost the primaries because he is/was poor?, then how did he managed to be an MP for two terms running. Is it the case that he was once rich but became poor on becoming an MP? I pity those MP's who are going for V8's because everybody is going in for one knowing they can't maintain or fuel them when they leave parliament. I know a former MP who lost his seat and is back to the public service. His V8 has been in the office garage for so many months now. Why ? Fuel, tyres, maintenance is a challenge. In Ghana's public sector car maintenance allowance is the same amount irrespective of the type of vehicle you own, V8, Patrol, Ranger, Range Rover/ VW tortoise , Corolla , sunny, Tico ,the same amount. If its true ABA had difficulty getting money to travel to his constituency then there may be a secret in parliament he is not privy to because others are ready to sell their properties to become MP's, if there is nothing in parliament why will people give each delegate GHC 1,500.00 , piece of wax print, knap sack sprayers, bags of rice , spraying of cash ( Ejura ) etc just to go to parliament and become poor? I doubt. I heard somewhere one MP aspirant even bought a brand new pick up for his constituency and still lost the primaries. There definitely must be a pull factor for people to want to be MP's. Service to one's constituents is not one of them. Hope the NDC will fix ABA somewhere if they ever come to power. We will miss his proverbs. " if you see a pregnant goat being sent to the market for sale, don't ask again, there is an urgent problem at home". Nobody will sell his pregnant goat when there is no emergency at home. We wish him sound health and long life.
