Charles Owusu has slammed James Gyakye Quayson who has been disqualified from Parliament by the Supreme Court for not learning lessons from his past experiences.

James Gyakye Quayson, according to the court ruling, is no longer a Member of Parliament for Assin North constituency and this is due to a petition challenging his legitimacy as he was said to have not completed the process of his renunciation of dual citizenship at the time he was elected into Parliament.

In view of this, a by-election is to be held on Tuesday, June 27 to elect a new parliamentarian for the constituency.

However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is presenting the deposed MP to re-contest the seat.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show in relation to the matter, Charles Owusu couldn't fathom why Mr. Gyakye Quayson knew he held dual citizenship but still went ahead to contest the Assin North parliamentary seat, knowing very well his action contravened the laws of the country.

He alluded to the years 2012 and 2016 when the NDC reportedly rejected Mr. Gyakye Quayson to contest the seat on the ticket of the party for holding a dual citizenship.

To him, Mr. Quayson repeating the same mistake in 2020 is an indication that he doesn't respect Ghana's laws.

"If it is true that this same thing happened to him in 2012 and the party told him they can't let him contest on their ticket, so he was rejected and in 2016, he was told the same thing; yet he returned in 2020 using the same route, then he deserves to be punished," he said.

The former Head of Monitoring Unit at the Forestry Commission admonished the disqualified MP to do the right thing emphasizing "nobody is bigger than the laws of this country".
