Afigya Kwabre North Member of Parliament (MP), Collins Adomako-Mensah has raised concerns over the daylight robbery attack on a bullion van at Ablekuma Fanmilk in Accra.
Four armed robbers ambushed the bullion van, fatally shot the Police guard and bolted with an undisclosed amount of money.
According to a Police statement, the van was attacked shortly after stopping at a fuel station to buy fuel.
Hon. Collins Adomako-Mensah, reacting to the incident, has called for strict protection for Police officers who guard bullion vans in the country.
He wondered why a Police officer having no armoured wear would be allowed to guard a bullion van when the country's history has shown it is usually a target for robbers.
"Of course, this is not the first time we are seeing this bullion van robbery. I think it should be a concern to the Ghana Police", he called on the authorities to rigorously enforce the Bank of Ghana instructions which demand that a bullion van should either be bullet-proof or have a military escort or both.
The MP was however certain the Ghana Police Service which is on a manhunt for the suspects will definitely apprehend them.
"I know they are going to arrest them", he said.
Hon. Collins Adomako-Mensah extended his deepest condolences to the deceased's family and the Police Service.
He made these comments on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
