Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says out of all the aspirants who have shown interest in contesting for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the next elections, he is the only one the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is afraid of.
“In fact the NDC knows that I am the only one among the ten aspiring presidential candidates who can defeat Mahama in 2024. That is why they always attack me and leave the other nine aspirants,” Dr. Bawumia pointed out.
The Vice President was addressing NPP delegates in the Takoradi Constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Western Region.
He told delegates that the NDC had three strongholds in the country and mentioned them as the Volta and Northern regions as well as the Zongo communities.
He said before he became the Vice President, the ruling NPP had only three out of the 31 seats in the Northern Region. “But with dint of hard work after I became the Vice President, now we have 16 seats. So NDC have done their survey and realised that if I am given the nod as NPP flagbearer, the NDC will lose more seats,” he added.
“As for the Zongo communities, what they are saying is that bring Bawumia and we will no longer vote for NDC. That is why the opposition party keeps attacking me, but I am focused and I believe if I am elected flagbearer, Ghanaians will make me president,” he added.
He then pleaded with the delegates to support and vote massively for him to lead the party into victory in 2024.
He indicated that even as Vice President, his contributions to the growth of the country’s economy are enormous, including the Gold for Oil policy, mobile money interoperability, drone for blood distribution and Agenda 111 among others.
“Mahama has been in politics for about 30 years but he cannot tell Ghanaians one policy that he would be remembered for,” he told the delegates.
Dr. Bawumia said he contributed to the country’s current electoral reforms when he mounted the witness box as a star witness in the 2012 election petition at the Supreme Court.
He said his digital agenda has also made it possible for people to do a lot of digital transactions, including paying of utility bills with ease and in the comfort of their homes.
He mentioned that the Gold for Oil policy he introduced has yielded positive results, as there has been stability in fuel and the local currency.
He pointed out that he would be able to unite the party since he has served both under the Kufuor regime and currently under the Akufo-Addo-led government.
The Western Regional Chairman of the NPP, Francis Ndede Siah told Dr. Bawumia that he would get 95 per cent of the votes cast from delegates in the region on November 4 this year.
He noted that Dr. Bawumia stands tall among all those who have so far expressed interest to lead the party, and would help the party ‘break the 8’ because of his track record.
He then called on the delegates to rally behind Dr. Bawumia because he is the only person capable of leading the NPP to victory in 2024.

KA WANUM TUM, ***barred word***
Big brother yes, you can. However you have work paaaaaaa to do ooooooo. It will first of all start with how to whip up the enthusiasm of the party's support base especially the ordinary NPP man/woman in the street who feels let down by the actions and inactions of some of the appointees and by far those who see the NPP as their family business. They have pushed a lot of floating voters away. This is where you have a very high mountain to climb. If you win the presidential primaries and were to meet the NPP women's wing in the presence of the regional minster who chased them away like animals when they went to his office to complain about the inadequate 97 pesewas feeding fee per children per day under the school feeding programme, what will you tell them?. Be ready for a lot of interesting scenes around the country as you meet with party supporters, in some places some supporters will insist you introduce their regional minsters /mmdces to them because they have never met them before. Why, because that will their first time of seeing their minister and mmdces one on one at a meeting after close to 8 years, be ready for such show downs. Be ready to even witness instances where some constituency chairmen will not want to sit with their mmdces or MP's when you want to meet them because currently we are beginning to see 3 to 4 different same NPP attending one funeral in groups/camps. Another herculean task is how you are going to disassociate yourself from some actions and inactions of oluuu and his family members , some of us know you don't have control and have no hand in them but will your opponents agree? Be ready to pick certificates from contractors who are also party members for jobs they executed and handed over for 3 to 4 years without being paid and whether you can assure them of payment before election day. Again, can you get a running mate who can shield you and face the bullets as you you shielded oluuu and received the bullets in 2016 and 2020? All these things mentioned are home matters. Now the main opponent, the NDC who have started their rehearsals as to how to tackle you and your ability to swiftly push the bullets away. Note the NDC will be displaying their physical infrastructure ie things you can see and touch, E-blocks, the hospitals, the interchanges, the airports etc. Does the NPP have same or better physical infrastructural projects to match the NDC. Remember Ghanaians want things they can see and point to and touch. How will you convince the rural person to understand digitization ie e-passport, paperless clearing system, e- this , e-that, health care delivery through drones, e- license among others. Also remember that in your rounds around the country to campaign you may not be able to spend a whole one week in a particular region, be sure to get credible people, some of the current appointees close to you are very unpopular in their own homes, if you leave the campaign in their hands they can't make any impact, check, some of the them can't even win the polling stations in front of their family house where they vote for the NPP. Big brother, am just preparing your mind to some of the challenges you are going to face should you win the NPP presidential primaries to enable you start thinking of how to handle them . Your challenges are both at home and away. Mahama is definitely not the alternative but some people who think the NPP is their family property have succeeded in making Mahama look like a saint. He wouldn't have dared to want to come back but he sat back and saw 'the party is for our family " people committing blunders left, right and centre thus the motivation for Mahama to say, looking at what is happening now, then i was a saint. Now that you (Bawumia) want to be president, you will have the carry and defend their blunders you did not commit. They have gotten what they were looking for. At times i pity my big brother. However with all these load , INSHA ALLAH, it's still possible.
