Newly-elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has given the strongest indication of his independent mindedness in his victory address to supporters and the nation.
Dr. Bawumia, who has been a Running Mate on two occasions and Vice President for 7 years, is finally out of the shadows, having been entrusted with the mantle of leading the NPP.
In his address, Dr. Bawumia declared a new era, stressing his own vision and priorities for Ghana.
"I have my own vision and my own priorities. Given the opportunity by you, the people of Ghana to lead, I shall govern as my own man with guidance from God Almighty", Dr. Bawumia said.
Expounding his vision, the Vice President as a transformative leader noted it is youth-focused and driven by technology.
"My vision is to build an inclusive, food self-sufficient, data-driven and systems based nation that will fully participate in the global digital revolution to solve our problems and also usher in a golden age of benefits from our natural resources," he said.
He added; "I want to lead a nation that improves and unleashes the talents of our youth and offers good jobs with good pay, and sustainable growth with macroeconomic discipline.
"I want to lead a nation that improves and unleashes the talents of our youth and offers good jobs with good pay, and sustainable growth with macroeconomic discipline."
He continued; "As the Presidential candidate of the NPP, it would be my commitment to the youth of Ghana. The talent of our youth in various sectors such as information technology, robotics, entrepreneurship, creative arts, sports, etc. is just amazing. When we bring the talents of the youth together, we will surely build a mighty nation" and added "I therefore invite the youth, particularly the 'GenZs to join me in this journey of great possibilities. I have a place for you."
He further charged the nation to rally behind to win next year's election, emphasizing "together, we can transform this nation and do even more, in many areas".

Masa, NPP and Bawumia are populist, propaganda is their trademark now and they do it better than the NDC who were known for that
Unless you rig the election gargantuanly
@Kweku,the Researcher, you are right...Bawumia must adopt that strategy to win, that's the language the people want to hear.God bless Bawumia!
@kweku, what are the good intentions of Bawumia? What has he shared with Ghanaians? Why have his good intentions not yielded anything in the government of Nana or rather he didn't deploy them? When people who are deeply involved in galamsay and other anti-nationalist activities have defied conventions to make you a flagbearer, and you have so enjoyed the brutal and the use of huge amounts of money to bribe delegates, you can never have any excellent governance that will have substantial and sustainable impact on the country. For Bawumia to be able to engage in such, he's not different from anyone. Integrity is inherent and shows even in the small things. You people should stop the propaganda trying to deceive the semi illiterate political sheep in the country that Bawumia is any exceptional, his government will not be different from Nana's and cannot be better than Mahama's.
Dear Bawumia, What I have learnt from Ken’s numbers at the just ended elections is that do not ignore populism and the Trump factor in election campaign. Of course you have good intentions for Ghana, but you are miles ahead in your vision for Ghana and the majority of Ghanaians who are semi-literates do not understand you. Please go down to their level engage in populism or hire people to do this for. Use social media widely to do populism. That is the language the people understand. Do whatever you can to save Ghana from Mahama. Thanks for your time. Best regards Kweku the researcher
@Yaw, because Ghanaians were displeased with Mahama's administration and wanted a new one. Nana and Bawumia presented themselves as the alternative that we so much desire for so we confidently entrusted our valuable power to them. Unfortunately, they have failed in a much greater quantum at everything that Mahama failed at, specifically in corruption, in economic mess, in arrogance of power, in the display of profligacy, in lawlessness of the nation, in sanitation, in incompetence, in excessive borrowing, in collapsing indigenous businesses, in the imposition of of excessive nuisance taxes, in the promotion of galamsay and protection of corrupt foreign nationals, etc. And sadly, their achievements do not reflect the amount of monies they have received. So it's not Ghanaians wishing to go for Mahama again, it's Nana Addo, the akyem engine room controllers, Bawumia and the NPP leaving Ghanaians with no option than to go for Mahama. I am sure if you're a thoughtful voter, you'll end up voting for Mahama and hope that there will be more credible candidates in the ensuing elections.
Even Mahama who was once a president, who performed so badly and was rejected by Ghanaians wants to be given another chance at the presidency why then condemn Bawumia who has never been president.
NPP will loose bigly.
You guys should understand what Akufo Addo and the akyem guys are doing with Bawumia. Have you realised that Bawumia is boldly dissociating himself from Akufo Addo's failures while taking credits for his government's achievements? And this is so cool with Nana and everyone, they'll will do everything to protect their interests in the NPP and Ghana's resources. Don't be surprised if Nana resigns at some point in 2024 so that Bawumia is allowed to complete his term and put him on a similar pedestal with Mahama. I have a feeling that the economic mess was largely skewed because there was an "opportunity" to attribute it to global recession so that they could enrich themselves and buy every elections. So if this changeover happens, Ghana will suddenly experience an artificially created "heaven" and they will campaign that indeed Bawumia is the genius, he was not allowed to operate, he's a man on his own, he has his own vision, etc .... 😂 and that Mahama is never a match. Don't underestimate what Nana and his people can do
Congratulations Dr. Bawumia but one question ought to be answered by you, your boss Nana Addo and the entire NPP government. Do you think you have managed the economy well for which reason Ghanaians should retain NPP in power?
