Nana Akomea has responded to claims by the Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi, that the result that the New Patriotic Party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, got in their just-ended election is embarrassing.
According to an article authored by Sammy Gyamfi, "it is a big shame that, despite the unprecedented vote-buying and personal phone calls to delegates, a significant number of the NPP delegates totaling 74, 236 and constituting a whopping 39% voted against his candidature in the just-ended NPP primary. He was totally rejected in two regions (Central and Volta regions) and over 50 Constituencies of his own party".
He continued; "This makes him the first NPP flag-bearer to be elected by less than 62% of valid votes cast since the NPP expanded their electoral college in 2010. This is an embarrassing vote of no confidence in his leadership by almost 40% of delegates in his own party."
In a quick riposte to the NDC Communications Officer, Nana Akomea wondered why they are now interested in Dr. Bawumia's results when they didn't believe the New Patriotic Party would choose him.
The STC boss alluded to some statements by the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and members of the opposition party that the NPP would reject Bawumia when he stands for their flagbearer position, painting an image that the party will never give opportunity for a Northerner to lead them.
To Nana Akomea, Sammy Gyamfi's claims are irrelevant as the NPP has proven the opposition wrong by electing Bawumia to lead them into the 2024 elections.
"They said the NPP won't allow Bawumia to be their flagbearer, so what again? NDC said it will never occur that the NPP will elect Bawumia as their presidential candidate and that the NPP is just using him, afterwards, we will dump him. Again, if the NPP wants votes in Northern, we should choose Bawumia as our presidential candidate but we will never select him, is this not what the NDC told us? They said this in 2012 and 2015 but today, they are saying 61 percent is small?", he raised these points while speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show Tuesday morning.

Ndc should celebrate Bawumia’s victory because that is what they said they wanted. Bawumia vrs Mahama. Ebe ye de. I wonder why they are all going around talking about 61 percent. Are they saying that the 39 percent who voted for the other contestants are going to vote for the Ndc come 2024 elections. Ndc should rather be worried that after all the negative campaign against the establishment that affected Bawumia, he still managed to win overwhelmingly. Bawumia is looking like the president already. See how he puts up his vision out for the fisher folks when he addressed them yesterday. It is possible.
Did NDC allow someone to challenge Mahama, NDC should ***barred word*** Since NDC was formed they have never allowed people to challenge their leader
