Amidst the escalating tensions over who becomes the Running Mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, voices from within the party are calling for a neutral candidate to be partner the Vice President going into the 2024 election.
Sources hint that the Deputy Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, has emerged as a potential unifying figure.
The option of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah sounds more appealing to power brokers who are of the view that his strong affinity with the Christian community and his leadership potentials are what the NPP needs in a Running Mate.
Various stalwarts of the party in the Ashanti Region have began strongly advocating for the party to choose someone from the Region and John Kumah is believed to be a force to reckon with.
One of the advocates stressing the importance of selecting a Running Mate from the Ashanti Region is Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Kingsley Nyarko who emphasizes that the Region's crucial role in determining the NPP's electoral success necessitates a candidate who can effectively garner support and unite the base of the party.
“There are a lot of competent personalities from the region so I don’t think that it is out of place to get someone from there. He [Dr Bawumia] can decide to choose the running mate from any other region but I think that a running mate from the Ashanti region will be a step in the right direction,” he said.

Not true !!!!!!
Seriously? Based on what? Being a deputy minister for 4 years qualify you to be vice president? We need to be serious in this country. The problems we face needs serious minds and leadership qualities no just people based on tribal nons*nse.
The sick state of our politics. Should it matter where one hails from if one is competent? This ethnocentric bigotry is what engenders corruption and incompetence. If it was down to ethnic/racial considerations Obama won't be the two-term president of the most powerful country on earth. Ghanaians need to do away with ethnic-based politics and focused on issue/idea-based politics. If an ediot is chosen just because he is from a region that gets you the most votes you are deliberately destroying the country.
