The Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced that his government will prioritise the award of scholarships to all persons with disabilities, to enable them continue with their education at the tertiary level.
Speaking during his Western North Regional campaign tour Friday, Dr. Bawumia said he has a personal commitment to supporting vulnerable people in society, and his government will particularly prioritise educational support for people with disabilities, who qualify to offer tertiary education.
"I believe that persons with disabilities, we need to support them a bit more," said the NPP Flagbearer.
"We are giving scholarships to all manner of people but I want to dedicate some of the money from scholarship Secretariat and GETFUND to provide free tertiary education, both tuition and accommodation to all persons with disabilities, who will make it into the universities so that they can all benefit from that," he added.
Dr. Bawumia also noted that his government will roll out other forms of support to people with disabilities and other vulnerable people in society.
He shared the work he has been doing to support vulnerable people in society, including his work as Patron of the Lepers Aid Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia stressed that, personally, he is committed to supporting vulnerable members of society because "it gives him joy."
He added that as Patron of Lepers Aid Ghana, he has been engaged in lots of activities supporting the vulnerable, and his government will prioritise a broader support for persons with disabilities and vulnerable members of society.

Were you not here when they campaign team of this liar said they know they can’t win based on performance but by tricks and strategies . So remember this and know BAWUMIA will keep on lying until he’s out of power and in opposition. Just don’t take him serious
Promises and promises, yatiea bre. Empty barrels!!! I CALL FOR A BLOODLESS COUP!!!!
I couldn't agree more with the two contributors: these politicians just tell outright lies and some Ghanaians still believe them! Can Bawumia even tell us how many PWDs we have in the country? And by the way what is the definition of PWD? Even if such a full scholarship scheme is created Ghanaians will wake up to realize that all the ministers and their relatives will suddenly become disabled in order to benefit from it! We have seen GETFUND scholarship which was established for brilliant but needy students given to "brilliant but needy" students like Adjoa Sarfo(who was home-schooled Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh(napo), Freddie Blay(who donated several buses to NPP sometime ago!),etc! What kind of sick country is this? And Ghanaians are quiet about it! And we still call these teefs honourable!
Let's be realistic with these promises please. Sometimes I think these politicians take us for a ride. Just reconsider all the promises Nana Addo made and let's ourselves if a quarter of them were fulfilled. Politicians across board are taking us for a ride and Ghanaians ought to be smart
Just on a promising spree...... shallow minds call such political promises policies. On what basis should all PWDs have tertiary education scholarships? What thinking has gone into it? That's the same thing Akufo Addo did about FSHS and it has become a mess and an albatross on all of us. All Bawumia and Akufo Addo know is saying things that excite simpletons to cast their votes for them. Scholarships are given to people on the basis of their needs and academic performance. Not all PWDs have financial needs and not all are brilliant or even wanting to enter a tertiary. What governments can do is to instruct the scholarship secretariat to grant automatic scholarship to proven PWDs with need who apply for same. But of course, a corrupt government with a corrupt scholarship secretariat cannot do this with integrity and ensure that only the right people benefit from the scheme. We must stop these corrupt politicians who use the general "yen ky3 nni" strategy where they declare free for everyone so that they themselves as politicians benefit more and in the end they find ways and means for the tax payer to pay for such useIess expenditure in multiple times.
