Although Ghanaians are largely unaware of the musical talents of Ras Nii alias Black Ant, the reggae artist who likes to call his brand of music, Roots Life is gearing up for his grand induction into the music industry.

His upcoming album African Skies includes the hit single, Asante Mama (Thank You Mama) which is in Swahili, Twi and English. Other songs such as the title track, African Skies,Time is Now, and Edana Meni Boowosuare already enjoying a lot of airplay in parts of the United States and the Caribbean. According to Ras Nii, the album would hit the streets of Ghana and Africa around February/March 2010.

Ras Nii was born as Nii Anue in Accra, Ghana where he began his musical career with a school performance at the age of 13. Influenced by legendary artists Lucky Dube, Bob Marley, and Tony Rebel; and powered with the spirit of Jah, he began moving classmates and instructors with stirring lyrics and undeniable musical passion. He later joined a local band named Seekjahmore (pronounced as sycamore) upon completion of his studies. Soon his performances spread throughout communities in Cape Coast and Accra.

Black Ant continued to open for some popular reggae artists in Ghana and his recognition continued to grow in some localities until an earth-shaking performance at a local festival in Cape Coast solidified his musical career. He relocated to Atlanta, GA in 2007 to begin the development of his first album.

The first single African Skies is an example of the Roots Life music, which is a Ghanaian blend of classical reggae beats with an infusion of traditional African rhythms and the impactful themes of love, unity and the need for youth empowerment for African liberation and development. A fervent Rastafarian, Ras Niis music is dedicated to the development of Africa.

Ras Nii says Ghanaians and music lovers all over the world should expect something new and insightful from him: fans should keep their fingers crossed and expect an element of surprise
