Ghanaian music legend and pioneer of rap music in Ghana, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has revealed that he is working on new material for an upcoming album and that a track with UK rap royalty, Sway has already been recorded.

Without giving much away, he hinted that the track is a guaranteed hit that would be enjoyed by both the young and old.

In an interview to find out his opinion about the surge of rap music in Ghana and the strong presence of artistes such as Sarkodie, Ayigbe Edem and Bradez in the nominations for the 2010 Ghana Music Awards, Mr Ambolley said he is happy about the development. He is proud to see something he started so many years ago take shape and transform into what it is now. He added that music is dynamic and preferences change with time but wished that the young musicians would understand the business of making music and not just chase after small fame.

Still on rap music, Ambolley said he was happy with what Sarkodie, the fastest rapper in Ghana has been able to achieve, and that he has a lot of respect for Obrafour as well. He however threw a challenge to all the young rappers that he can battle whoever the reigning rapper in Ghana might be. He added that he always gets a lot of respect from the young musicians who sometimes address him as the godfather of rap, and that he would be glad to give advice to anyone who contacts him.

Gyedu Blay Ambolley popularized his fast-paced style of highlife in the 1970's. His music is often a fusion of elements of jazz, pop and highlife music using rhyme, metaphor, and other poetic and/or verbal devices.
