Bronx, New York February 26, 2010 Kwabena, Kwabena will be making his first appearance in America in New York City, on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Park Central Ballroom courtesy of Boogie Down Nima Productions.

If there is a face to African indigenous soul music movement, it is probably Kwabena, Kwabena. The respect he receives from other artists has been driven by his uncompromising success as well as from the unselfishness he has shown in support of other up-and-coming singers and musicians. A tirelessly touring artist, Kwabena, Kwabena vocals can be heard on countless albums by other artists such as Daddy Lumba, Okyeame Kwame , Tinny , Kontihene , Castro, and Obrafour.

That peer love appears to only be exceeded by the near fanatical following he has among a surprisingly large fan base, both old and young, making him a sort of Highlife soul royalty. Kwabena, Kwabena has dominated African radio and he is quickly changing the game and the sound of African Highlife music.

African Highlife music emerged in the 1920s and is a fusion of indigenous dance rhythms and melodies with Western sounds. It began in the coastal towns of Ghana, including: Regimental brass bands, sea shanties, hymns; European foxtrots and Caribbean kaiso, with African rhythms of Liberia, Sierra Leone (ashiko and goombe), (dagomba) and Fante (osibisaba).

The instrumentation included African drums, harmonicas, guitars, accordions; and by 1920's was known collectively as Highlife. This West African music has many elements of US jazz forms. Not just an Anglophone African phenomenon, highlife influenced other music including the modern Congolese sound; the single most influential African style to have emerged and remains open to innovation.

Although Kwabena, Kwabena refers to his style of music as Afro centric but Ghanaian based, his sultry sound of highlife music is quickly being referred to as Soul Life Music; a blend of Highlife Music and R & B. This new innovation and new term, SoulLife Music was first coined by Hashim Haruna of BDN Vision as a result of trying to define the sound of Kwabena, Kwabena.

Kwabena, Kwabenas sound and style of music was quickly compared to the late Jackie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield, and Luther Vandross. Other comparisons included smooth & sultry R& B artists like Baby face, Carl Thomas and Joe, demonstrating his wide range of style. More impressive than his sound is his delivery of indigenous proverbial songs, each song tells a story or teaches a lesson. He often leaves the audience speechless and spellbound. The harmonies are tight and every song has a real smooth feel that makes you dance with that special someone.

Kwabena, Kwabena will be making his first appearance in America in New York City, on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Park Central Ballroom in New York City. For tickets or more information, visit www.hiplifemovie.com. Proceeds will benefit the Youth Institute of Science & Technology {YIST}; a rural based school located in Agogo, Ghana.
