The Ghana Music Awards Festival has grown to become the biggest and most prestigious festival on the entertainment scene. Not only has it generated enormous public interest but has, perhaps, become the single most controversial series of events in Ghana.

One would have expected that after nine editions, there would be little to disagree about. Like other world acclaimed music awards, the Ghana Music Awards has generated a lot of controversies.

However, we will swift our attention from the controversies and look at a disturbing phenomena associated with the award. Call it superstition, African Mentality or whatever you may but this is real. Pinnaclegh.com has observed that over the years artistes who have picked up the top award or most awards drop from the top. Though there are a few exceptions about 6 of the 9 top winners have never seen their music do as well as it did before the awards.

The phenomena extends even to sound engineers with Zapp winning it for three consecutive times. Dont get it wrong Zapp Mallet is still an excellent engineer but what happened to him. It used to be all Zapp, then JQ and to Apietus and now there is Richie. Sometimes one time winners even find it difficult to get back on top. Being handed an award if you look at things from this perspective is like being handed a pension letter. The list goes on and on.

Cindy Thomson, Lord Kenya, Daasebre Gyamena, Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi are but a few of this example. The issue is not that these artistes drop in standards but for some strange reason they drop from the very top. In Pinnaclegh.com's opinion the last album kojo Antwi released was his best but it never did as well as his previous albums. Cindy Thompson has been missing from the music scene where as Lord Kenya has been in a struggle for some years now.

Daasebre Gyamena's story is not exactly different. Ofori Amponsah was nearly an exception but his latest album is not doing as well as one would have expected it to do. What is the problem with receiving lots of awards, do the artistes become complicent or there is indeed a spiritual connotation to the phenomena. Judging by precedence Kwaw Kesse and Okyeame Kwame are soon to go down or lose out from the pinnacle of the industry. These artistes are such fine assets and pinnacle hope there is indeed no curse of spiritual connotations.
