Ahuma Daddy Bosco Ocansey, administrator of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has been appointed Chairman of the 2014 BASS Awards Committee.

The committee is responsible for this years edition of BASS Awards; the biggest Reggae and Dancehall Awards in Africa. The award is specially designed to show gratitude to reggae and dancehall musicians, to serve as an annual gathering of lovers of reggae and dancehall and generally present top notch entertainment to the public.

The announcement that Bosco is the head of the committee has been received with applauds and lots of recommendation because of his reputation and track record in the promotion of reggae and dancehall music.

He will be working on the committee with other music heavyweights including Kwasi Nyarko (Root Eye), Nii Ayitey Okai (Black Santino), Edward Ohene-Djan (Eddie Ranks), Elorm Beenie, Isaac A.T. Mooney (King Lagazee), Zapp Mallet, Makeba Boateng and Ezekiel Tetteh.

Together they will be responsible for the call of entries and collation of submitted materials or works for this years awards. They will also be responsible for sorting them out, pruning down the numbers, properly placing them in the categories they fit and coming out with the final nominees list.

The announcement was put out by the events organizers. They explained that members of the committee were chosen based on their track record of helping to promote and develop reggae and dancehall music in the country and in Africa.

Conspicuously missing from the list were Talent Manager and Chief Executive of Bullhaus Entertainment Lawrence Asiamah Hanson, popularly referred to as Bulldog and Rude Buoy Sterling, both who were part of last years committee.

Organisers also announced that musicians and record labels who had works released between January and December last year were encouraged to submit them for nominations this year.

Launched in 2013, BASS Awards is the first of its kind and the future looks very bright as it touches on one of the most respected genre in the world. It is an established fact that Reggae and Dancehall have made a tremendous impact among music lovers and the artistes themselves hardly get noticed or appreciated.

The name of the event was derived from Rhythms and BASS (pronounced Base), which happens to be the basis for the reggae and dancehall genre.

The BASS Awards is jointly organised by Rackus Productions, Bullhaus Entertainment and Solid Multimedia. This years event is under the theme Turn It Up, obviously in reference to taking the Awards to the next level after its successful launch last year.
