The MTN Digital Music Conference has been held for musicians in the northern part of the country, as part of efforts to encourage musicians to take advantage of digital platforms and social media to promote their arts for improved income.

At the conference, it was stated that, music on compact discs were not selling anymore whiles opportunities for live shows or performances were not regular, situations which led to poor earnings from their work, hence the need to explore digital platforms, where they would earn royalties when their works were used.

The conference held in Tamale, was organized by Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN Ghana) to provide platform for players in the music industry to study, understand and access opportunities in the emerging markets around the world.

It was also to create awareness on digital channels available for musicians, producers, and the music industry to help them make income.

Mr. Tashiru Tahiru, Northern Regional Welfare Officer of the Musicians Union of Ghana said digital platforms did not only offer financial rewards for musicians but also helped to promote their works across the globe.

Mr Mohammed Abdul Rashid, known in showbiz as Kawastone, said people now spent a lot of time on social media and urged musicians to embrace social media platforms to promote their music.

Sheriff Ghalley, a Reggae Musician, advised young musicians to seek support from experienced musicians to nurture their arts to continue to produce good music for society.

He also urged them to acquire education and be creative, as well as work as a team to produce valuable music for society.

Mr Bless Sefenu Agordjo, General Manager, Products and Services, MTN Ghana said, “it is critical to utilize the convenience that digital tools provide,” adding “Let us work hand in hand in harnessing the benefits of the digital technology to transform lives and help leap frog the fortunes of the Ghanaian music industry.”

He assured that “For us at MTN, we are ready to support and move Ghana music industry forward in every way within our means".
